fantastic game

glad i deliberately made the decision to start ignoring non-story sidequests about halfway through though.

combat never really got stale and i think might be the best of its type.

9/10 imo

also i really liked ALL of the characters

especially kenji

I'm a decent bit into the game (recently got to second island, did a few quests there after doing a ton of side stuff on the bottom island)

tbh I'm a little disappointed after how much it was hyped up. Like the visuals are fantastic, but the game itself is pretty bland overall. I don't know if I'm just getting sick of the "go around an open world on horseback taking over camps and fighting enemies" subgenre of games, but I've really been forcing myself to continue on.

I agree that I might start ignoring sidequests though, as they almost all just come down to "fight this random group of mongols" and nothing particularly interesting happens.

are you playing hard mode at least.

that helped me because the enemies later on get fun to fight against.

lethal mode was pretty cool but ultimately felt a little gimmicky. still better than normal difficulty

i do wish there were more duals.

but the issue isn't so much that the missions are too easy, just that the mission structure is so repetitive

ya i feel you. i stopped really caring about the missions and just enjoyed the combat, trying to parry and perfect dodge and stuff. i wish there was a way to just boss rush all of the duels or something

The combat in this game was so good. I kinda lost interest in the story and just ran and did all the strongholds as soon as it let me. It's a weird dissonance though, in that the game tells you that the samurai way won't work on these enemies, but rocking up to a stronghold of 30 Monguls and loudly announcing yourself and fighting through them all was way more fun than sneaking about.

Although, I guess I did use Kunai and bombs and stuff, so maybe not.

Anyway, looking forward to going back when the multiplayer mode comes out!

so I've come to the conclusion that Kurosawa mode honestly just makes the game more fun

like the siege of Yarikawa story mission in Kurosawa mode is incredible

I think the Yarikawa fight is one of my favorite set pieces, yeah. Didn't think of playing it in Kurosawa mode (seemed a little gimmicky to me overall).

I would buy a duels-only DLC in a heartbeat. The last fight was also cool because of how relentless the boss is.

I played Kurosawa mode for the first few hours and it is fun, but I wanted to enjoy the colours and armour dyes.

yeah I've been going back and forth on it, and while I love seeing the visuals and colors, something about playing in Kurosawa mode (even if it's a little gimmicky) just makes the whole thing such a unique experience that just makes me appreciate it more. Things like the score stand out a lot more I think

I made the mistake? of playing in Japanese because I thought it would be more authentic. After finishing, hearing about how the English is superior made me sad

ya overall I'm glad I played in English. Masako in particular stood out to me. And Kenji was really funny

I've been playing mostly in English, though I switch over to Japanese now and then when in Kurosawa mode. Lord Shimura in particular stood out in Japanese

Also I'm always a sucker (pun only kind of intentional) for Sucker Punch's easter eggs

I mean if you didn't personally have a problem with the Japanese, you're not necessarily missing anything. I've just heard that the lip synching wasn't great in the Japanese dub.

the enemies get harder. the highest level enemies are legitimately blink and you miss.
