Being who I am, I won't watch the movie to confirm whether this movie is as bad as people are trying to portray it as. From the description of the film, there is no mention of trafficking anywhere and it doesn't seem to have a positive message towards what the girls are doing. I'd like to know that someone actually watched the film and could confirm that the contents of the film are no worse than most mainstream movies or at least by European standards.

How does it compare to that Good Boys film for example?

I totally agree with the pageants and dance competitions being bad. I think they've always been seen negatively but it never gained traction.

But this isnt a 'fake' version. Those are still real little girls being made to do those dances in those clothes. It's exactly the same as those nasty pageants.

You know "coming of age" films aren't usually a guide for people of that age, right? Some are intended for nostalgia, some are to show a different life experience through a common framing that people go through, etc.

Tbh something like that teen beach movie from Disney channel would be just as inviting to those kinds of people. This movie sounds like it was trying to make a statement but took some liberties that even without the fake outrage about child trafficking would have sparked some deserving criticism.

A few people I know have watched maybe half of it and said they were pissed off and didnt want to continue. Now I want to judge it for myself, so Im going to look for it.

Thats really the most important part of this narrative though. Like if people has just called it out as looking gross then it wouldve been normal and fine, but the QAnon bullshit trying to link literally everything to trafficking while ignoring that most victims of trafficking are poor people, runaways, and LGBTQ+ youths who got kicked out of their homes who are trying to survive. We need to prop up people who are so low on options that they trafficking themselves and instead people are screaming about children who looked gross but had therapy and financial support the entire time.
