The final-final end boss fight is without a doubt Isshin, the Sword Saint. What I don't understand is he dislikes Genichiro's route and leadership with Ashina. He dislikes it so much that he directly helps Sekiro set a path to stop Genichiro but at the end he decided to stand with Genichiro and fought Sekiro. Why?

I assume he is bound to Genichiro's will either literally or morally. Or he is just too much like his young self and craving battle to the end, like his memory says.

This is suggesting his old prime self is more or less the same as Genichiro. That his prime self would have stood against Sekiro up front?

It's basically both. Since Genichiro's dying wish was for Isshin to defeat Sekiro, Isshin was compelled to fulfill it. But Isshin definitely also relished his chance to fight Sekiro in his prime

Isshin at the end of the game is the same in mind as he was right before his death.

Yeah Isshin was bound to Genichiro's last wish for Ashina to win the war and Sekiro stood in the way. And as already stated, it seemed like with his younger body, he craved battle.

So much for their philosophy of convictions and beliefs but then again the game is partially about throwing away your true self for things such as immortality and lust for battle.

Youre right

the only reason hes fighting sekiro is because its genichiros dying wish. So he has to honor it. Also not to mention he loves a good challenge so he looks forward to going toe to toe with sekiro

Also he fights you because he thought the game was too easy beforehand and that wouldn't be right.

I'm reading that Gen's Black Mortal Sword has the power to bring back the dead, and that person brought back is bound to comply. I guess I must have missed that part.

I believe after you get the red mortal blade, you can find a scroll on Isshin's balcony that describes the black mortal blade as the key to open the underworld, or something similar. It's easy to miss.
