Do you know that Naruto and Goku voice actors are actually female? do you think I give a shit about this and complain "only male should voice male characters"? no, I don't. Because I don't care who is behind the voices - I only care if the voice fits and is memorable. This is all that matters.
So why the fuck does it matter that a black person voice a black character? unless you think all black characters should have "black accent" (which is super racist by itself by the way) then how does it matter if a white or black person voices that character? why do you need to fire or ask the current voice actress of a black character to resign because she is white? she did a good fucking job
Lillie from Pokemon Sun and Moon has probably the worst voice acting I have ever heard. If they fired her and instead hired a black actress which did a better job than her, I would be fucking happy - because I don't care if she is black or white - I care how she sounds
And this is what you little angels don't fucking understand because all you care about is "doing the right thing"

Why the fuck the oscar now has Diversity Rules? this is about choosing the best film of the year, how does the main character being from a minority group makes this a better movie than another one that doesn't have someone from a minority group as a main character?

Why does the main character of Batwoman need to from the LGBT group? why not actually go for someone that would best fit the rule? oh you mean straight people can't play gay characters now? or they shouldn't?

Full disclaimer - while I am not crazy on Life Is Strange like you people, and you all know my opinion about gay relationship etc - I liked it. It was pure. It was genuine. It wasn't forced.

I feel like video games are an extremely cost-effective medium unless all you play are 10-hour cinematic games bought at full price. The base price increasing by $10 is long overdue considering the price of...everything else in the world has risen more than that in 14 years.

I dont agree with the language used there. But you have to understand that this isnt to do with just conservatism, its specifically using a very loaded term thats literally been developed as a recruiting tool for the far-right. Thats a problem.

Nanis, you dont have to worry about that stuff. It doesnt affect you. It might make other peoples lives better though. Take the oscars for instance, thats just best practice for hiring that anybody can reach - if you dont pass those standards you were likely deliberately trying to have a non-diverse cast and crew. Its a bare minimum. Nobody is saying that people cant play different orientations, and so on. My recommendation would be to chill out, stop taking these issues so seriously, and maybe even think about the advantages. And if not, you said yourself, you dont care what people are. So maybe try embracing that.

Personally, I don't care about diversity for diversity's sake, but I think having a diverse creator pool leads to better and richer storytelling.

In speculative fiction, there's a rough dichotomy between stories where the goal is to restore the status quo, and where the goal is to change it. Classic fantasy was generally about restoring the status quo (getting the rightful king back on the throne, defeating the evil that awakens after 100 years of peace, etc.) because it was often written by people who, in real life, benefited from the status quo around them. Marginalized authors are more likely to challenge/subvert that kind of mentality and I think that's pretty cool.

Or again using fantasy as an example, I am kinda tired of the classic "vaguely medieval Europe" fantasy setting (not to say it can't be executed well! but it's certainly not going to entice me toward a work). Having more unique settings absolutely enriches the speculative fiction world, and a lot of these works draw inspiration from non-Western mythology. So I would tend to gravitate toward something billed as "Nigerian-inspired fantasy" than "yeah more kings and castles" and I don't think it's sjw of me, it's just wanting something new in fiction.

Re: voice acting, I don't have as strong opinions, but I do think accents are important! Like if a game were set in Singapore (or somewhere Singapore-coded) and the voice actors did not have proper Singlish accents, I would be disappointed.

The last two posts made (before Steiner post) really made me happy. No sarcasm. I am happy to see that there are people that might not agree with me but are willing to explain why and point out why they think I am wrong

But it does. It hurt some of my favorite shows/games/movies etc and will continue to do so.
Try and think of your favorite voice acting in media. Take your..I dunno, 5 top picks. In this board the one I see praised the most is Female Shepard from Mass Effect.
Now replace it with a amataur voice actress that was only casted because she is from a minority group. Wouldn't this hurt your experience? please think about this as honestly as possible

This is pure opinion matter. If you think a value of something can go down at the cost of making a few people more happy, then good for you and I respect that. I personally don't, I value the product's value the most.

Some people are boycotting Amazon because they claim that they overwork and underpay their workers. I have no idea if it's true or not, but if it's true - you can approach it in two ways
1.Boycott them because you value those workers more than you value yourself
2.Buy from them because you enjoy how comfortable Amazon service is

Both of them are valid in my eyes. I am just the type of person that goes with the second option.

As I mentioned Life Is Strange - it can be done wonderfully if you are going this way and genuine about this
But if you just want to mark some "V" on checklist and throw a random character into the story who is also from a minority group for the sake of it and then scramble some shit and lazy backstory for it..this is not good
Again, this is just a matter of *why* they use a diverse pool. If it's for the sole purpose of expanding the story? I am all for it. If it this just to say "hey we have a gay character buy our product!" then..no. This is cyncial and pathetic, don't buy into that.

And I have no problems with that. It's a different genre. Different story. They always exist and I don't have a problem with them. Never did. They are not for me but you are welcome to enjoy them

I agree with you. But not all people have accents.
I remember people were upset that Chernobyl actors were not russian because it hurt the genuinity of the experience. This is valid criticism! but if it was "Chernobyl actors MUST be Russians because Russians are a minority group!" this is not
If you want your black character to have a "black accent" and you cast a black actress for it, this is super fine! I swear!
But not all of them do
