I personally cant name all of the justices and dont know any individual ones politics beyond general party trends.

I only really know Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts.

The fact that so many people didnt know who she was is an embarrassing indictment of how poor our public education is in the US

Some are more forgettable than others, but Ginsburg was one of the court's biggest names (who you'd hear about as often as Scalia back when he was alive). I can usually remember six of them. I tend to forget Kagan, Alito, and Gorsuch.

Well, he was played by Matt Damon...

Ginsbug has been in the news I'd say at least once a month for most of the Trump administration because of her failing health. Before that I still remembered her name because she was a fairly significant member of the court.

To not know who she is displays a degree of ignorance I wish wasn't normal.

RBG had her own character on SNL so if they use that then she has appeared on more shows than Matt Damn did as Kavanaugh.

I also found these ones far funnier than Matt Damon as Kavanaugh.

Yeah, the Kavanaugh sketches weren't particularly great, but they were memorable at least.

lol, you live a very sheltered existence. Even if you only include government-related fears, there are countless things that should frighten you more.

A lot of justices tend to be big names when they are being nominated and kind of fall into the background once they are on the bench. She wasn't one of them however, in fact she was probably the most well known justice while serving outside of maybe Scalia when he was on the bench.

I knew who she was since before some PotDers were alive. I remember when she was initially appointed.

I also remember Sandra Day O'Connor.

It may not even matter at this point. It's pretty much an inevitability that they're going to try to stall any appointment until after the election. Two months isn't necessarily all that long, especially since most hearings wind up lasting longer than that. It would be incredibly easy for Congress to propose a hold on appointments until after the election turnover (which is about more than just who's sitting in the Oval Office - remember, Congressional elections are happening as well).

That being said, if Trump does win another 4 years, he'd still get a nominee in, and would probably have enough political sway to get someone in that he wouldn't have been able to push through, say, a year or so ago.
