Ah, the other day when you said he'd just get booted again. I don't know who nominated him before but we're a long way removed from XIV! He can make it out of boots this time... maybe!

At this point I'm already looking to next year, clinging to the hope that 7R is released on the Switch before then... only once the Nintendrones are ensnared will the true REMAKE BOOST be achieved!!!

I mean, Jessie clearly got a remake boost so those three would potentially be more interesting to see than Vincent. And Dark Nation is going to outlast several playable characters so why not go for more side ones?

Weren't there like a dozen different trains ready to go for next year anyway? I don't remember what people were even planning on.

Jessie is extremely likeable, people don't get a boost just because they were in the game. Kind of grappling with that atm.

Next year has any or all of the following redemption projects:

-YRP
-Shuyin
-Noctis/FFXV
-Vivi
-Sephiroth
-Doomtrain
-Uh.... Selphie?

andy: last year Vivi was eliminated because Bane made a trade with someone who was 16 seconds late on fulfilling it so he suffered an untimely end... so considering last year, this year, and next year will have been 3 years since his last top 10 appearance, it's gonna happen!

his second win came right after his worst performance ever, so playing the long game maybe Bane would want Vivi to do horribly next year then rebound. Side note, I didn't notice how close all of his finals were, I figured he'd just roll them given his popularity.

And it's still funny to see him named as a 'redemption project' among a bunch of characters who have straight up been booted out. Yuna seems like the easiest rebound opportunity looking at Martin's list, though I am biased.

I mained Vivi that year due to various things happening, mostly The Alliance dying. I wanted him to get a second win after being cheated out of a second win from alt voting. I got it so I'm satisfied.

Yeah, I remember early on in my first contest musing about winners being retired and getting slapped down for that. Rightly having it pointed out that if it's someone's favourite final fantasy character and the saves are there they deserve to be here, and win multiple times if it happens, which is fair enough.

It is an interesting thought exercise for sure, not just for changes in the finals but the butterfly effects throughout the rest of the contest. Just think about all those Auron, Lulu and Tidus saves you've made up to this point, what character(s) get the save benefits instead of them? Rikku would probably still be alive at this point I guess...

A Tournament of Champions might be interesting in a few years once we (probably) have a few more champions.

Yeah it makes sense to keep them in, I guess also you'd run the risk of just scrolling through the main cast of the most popular games, but as you say it's interesting to wonder how things would change. I don't know who I would've mained if there were no past winners here, I'm actually pretty neutral on Rikku. It is impressive there's only been one repeat so far.

How many winners are actually alive still? Cecil, Gilgamesh, Celes and Tidus? 4/20 in the final 26 isn't that many, maybe things wouldn't be too different after all.

I've committed to be all-in on Selphie. She's got 4th and 3rd so far, 2nd or 1st is doable tbqh.

If that falls apart before next year then the other two have my support for mid-tier finishes.
