They've been doing that recently, just posting videos of new announcements on Twitter and YouTube with no warning. While I definitely prefer a direct in terms of announcements coming all at once, I don't really mind them doing it this way.

But part of the magic of a smash reveal is getting it actually revealed to you in the trailer. If they just post it on the internet then the news will spread faster, and most people will know who the character will be before they even see the video. It just wouldn't be the same at all, and that makes me sad.

I really hope that they announce the time they're going to premiere the new character's announcement instead of just announcing it out of the blue.

Eh, it doesn't really matter to me but I'm not into hype culture these days. Back in like 2010 I might have agreed though.

in general I'm kind of okay (but disappointed) with the hype culture slowly dying down, but smash is something that I feel very strongly should stay that way.

I do miss the days when we could actually learn who newcomers were from specific moments in their reveal trailers. The trailers themselves were really well designed to build up to the reveal, but nowadays, without the buffer of an entire direct, it's impossible to get to that point without being spoiled by the video title and thumbnail or even an article headline randomly popping up in a notification on your phone.

Hopefully we'll get some sort of news soon, Min-Min came out back in June.
