As do many cultural habits, this varies by state and region: The West drinks by far the most booze of any region, coming in at 2.5 gallons per capita, while the South drinks the least, consuming a mere 2.23 gallons per person per year. The Northeast and Midwest drink 2.41 and 3.27 gallons per capita, respectively.

Kinda shocked the South is so low on this list but I guess I live in Louisiana which is the highest in the south by far (unless you consider Florida "the south").

What do you mean, like they are big or the prices are really good?

Also it's a very cold state, I kind of expected Maine, Alaska, places like that reaching below freezing temperatures in winter, people drinking for the body warmth effect.

Yeah if thats just booze purchased in NH it might be because of the surrounding states. They have no sales tax so people will cross state lines to get stuff. I know people that go up there for cigs since theyre way cheaper

I didn't know NH didn't have sales tax, I thought that was only Delaware.

In the south at least youll always have the counter of strictly religious folks that drink next to nothing. Some Christian denominations used to really advocate teetotalism.

Is perhaps the stronger Christian ideologies of the South contributive towards their lower alcohol consumption? That's the best reason I can think of.

Living in the south, I and at least two other people I know in different counties have them as dry counties due to religious reasons.
