the industrial revolution and its consequences might have been possible to absorb in time, but information technology basically has the world's societies in meltdown

Seems like it's headed in the direction of that movie with Bruce Willis. VR where people stay home looking into a virtual world owning things that they can't own IRL and it brings them joy.

Yeah tech is way ahead already. A lot isn't widely made to the public yet. They have robots that can cook in the kitchen. Smart glasses are slowly coming out soon. RFDI is the future along with much more.

Artificial food is coming up. Science pretty much can make a burger patty without a cow. Robots for sexual purpose is pretty much here with touch based stimulation. None of this is hidden it's just not widely available. Many are still being tested.
