The plight was silly teenage drama, and its like, all the adult characters were self-aware and knew that already (hank and peggy wondering what was going on at first, then just going "meh" and went back to chilling in their caskets. Minh wondering wtf @ joseph and just laughing him off, joseph himself being moody because he got a huge growth spurt and being too tall to use his old bike/kept hitting his head on random crap like most teens who get growth spurts do. Also, being attracted to every single female he sees because teenage hormones don't give a shit, etc. lol) which is why the episode felt like it was throwing shade at that cliche in general.
