They gave a sense of weight in a lot of subtle ways. One example would be the number of rocket boosters utilized to make them move faster or even jump. Look at Crimson Typhoon during the Thundercloud Formation. As it's slashing away there are rockets firing on its back to increase the speed of its attack. Or when Gypsy Danger launches itself at Leatherback and hammerfists him on top of the head.
