people generally don't use it because Red Mage is often around this late, but as long as there's only one character it applies to, it should be fine

I think it's mostly because it's one of the only two people left that vaguely resembles a train (RIP Doomtrain) and people don't expect Dark Nation to survive the 7 scrum.

I'm not sure how that can really be classified as a train. It's been me, Gilded, and Bane from the beginning.

As for "not doing anything with it", uh, what? I saved my favorite final fantasy character and traded saves for them too. Even offered a NR this round! Not sure what else I could have done.

It's not like the meme got additional savers anyway. I just followed Gilded's lead on that because I thought it was fun! Idk, I don't typically join these with an intent to convince people to join my cause. If people like my character, so be it! If not, oh well.

I wasn't really around much my bad.

Well since we have no regular stats today, here's a little BONUS STATS to show how ridiculous things are this year.

Last year, only 3 H1s had a save count of 60 or more: Day 84, 95, and the last (98). The H1 record for saves was 62, set on Day 98.

XXI also had 15 days with an H2 of 50 or more saves, hitting a high of 55 twice.

This year, so far in H1:
-15 rounds with 60 or more saves, starting at Day 50 and including every day since Day 75.
-The old record of 62 saves was tied 5 times, plus we had a couple of 64s and a new H1 record of 67 saves on Day 81

And in H2:
-35 rounds with 50 or more saves, first at Day 22 and every day since Day 61
-old record of 55 tied thrice and surpassed 7 times (including a new record of 59 on Day 75)

So, to summarize XXII (to date!!) vs XXI:
-H1 with 60 or more saves: 15 - 3
-H2 with 50 or more saves: 35 - 15

(and we can seriously expect every H1 and all but the last two H2 to meet those thresholds, so realistically gonna be 30 - 3 and 48 - 15 by the end)

Looking at H4 (lol H4, anyone remember 2 months ago?) (literally the last H4 was on August 2):
-XXI had 29 rounds with an H4, with the last three being Days 73, 76, and 86. An H4 on Day 86. Will ours last even 5 minutes into H3?
-XXII had 6 rounds with an H4, 6 of the 7 days after FoG. "Had" is the operative word here, barring a well-timed and sufficiently-lengthy site downage.

As far as "Disappearing H3s" go, outside of FoG, the only rounds that typically lose H3 are Days 97 and 98. Day 96 almost lost it last year (only 1 save). This year lost 3 pre-FoG, and an additional 3 after (Days 44, 49, 50). We're almost certain to lose it Day 96 this year and pretty likely Day 95 too.

What will be interesting to see is, in past years, save counts go up as we get closer to the final, for example:
-in XXI, avg H1 saves on Days 81 through 90 were 54.4; vs Days 91 through 98, 56.9
-in XX same day ranges, 48.6 vs. 51.6

As we're seeing consistently record-setting saving already, could we really go higher as we get closer to the end? How long before we top 70 saves in H1, or lose H3 entirely in the top 10?

Yeah that did have top finals votings iirc. Interesting! Guess we're heading for something similar this time. I was already thinking there'd be no H1 trading this year and it'd be done in-topic with people at the top of the rush, if even necessary... non-zero chance we don't even get to H2 this year.

we have more activity than usual for sure, but not the 75 people needed to finish before H2. i guess if someone really gets left behind in top 3 you'd only need like, 65, but i'm guessing at least 70 realistically.

Well it'd be max 74 people, but yeah, might not even need to be left that far behind. 25-25-20 is 70 saves which we could certainly hit (last year was 25-21-16 for 62 saves)

....so now I'm wondering if the Steiner/Lightning F3 tennisboy was referring to was really strong turnout or like, Sephiroth being horribly frozen out in 3rd, lol. :(
