SM RPG was apparently pretty popular when it released too, and if they played that game when they were kids they would be teenagers when melee came out. So in the lead up to the Brawl hype, it made sense. However, much of it is the Smash fanbase being stuck in the 90's thru mid-00's, as they are prone to do.
