As in, he knew that it was extremely dangerous before it hit the U.S. and downplayed it to the public, yet didn't do anything to stop it from hurting his re-election chances. What kind of sense does that make?

because the GOP cares about one thing and only one thing: money. keeping the economy as stimulated as possible is more important to those people than saving lives. downplaying the virus allowed him and the GOP overlords to push the "reopen ASAP, go out and spend money like good little peons because there is nothing to fear" narrative.
