I've tried it a couple times before but never made it too far before I lost interest and stopped playing.

I'm gonna force myself to keep going and finally finish it.

Yes, lol. Terrible gameplay but the world is dark enough to still be more Silent Hill-y than Downpour

Come to think of it.. I don't think I finished it either >_>

Might have to dust off my PS3

I actually loved Downpour. It's probably in my top 3 for the series.

I love the rest of the series but for some reason I've had trouble getting into Homecoming.

Im a sucker for horror games and hold them near and dear to my heart but yeah, Homecoming was total ass to play

Im not a stickler for graphics, controls, and all that jazz but I do remember Homecoming being the only game I didnt wanna bear through.. its not like these games are totally zeroed in and focus on gameplay either so

But anyways - my favorites are probably 2 (and honestly I wouldnt even count it since Ive played this thing to death anyways and is just a given by now 2 is always gonna be in someones list) 4>Origins>3>1

I thought shattered memories was pretty good too.. wish they could REmake it since it was perfect for the PSP (so was origins) but not sure if it has a lot of substance to be a console release without some darker and more fleshed out elements

Downpour was much better

I've never seen any of the movies either but I'm not really a big movie person. I can count on one hand the number of movies I watch in a year.

The original Silent Hill movie was actually pretty awesome. They do a good job capturing the atmosphere of the games and rely on less invasive techniques like angles to capture the idea that it's an adaptation of a video game (as opposed to... using footage from the game, I'm lookin' at you House of the Dead).

Never saw the sequel though.

Is the plot related to the games at all?

The plot is similar to the first game in a way, but does have differences. It really is quite good

I'd also just like to caveat my original post that it was awesome for a movie adaptation of a video game, and it stood out as a good horror movie. Just wanted to clarify since usually video game movies suck and usually horror movies are really hit or miss and generally regarded as lower quality in general.

The first movie is actually a pretty competent horror movie.
The second one is legit horrible

Its not related at all. This game is in the games universe. It just has similar themes. The game is def worth playing all the way. The combat is kinda the weak point. But it has some good enemy designs

I'm actually enjoying it more than I remembered.

I'm currently at the part in the hotel and just saw the Pyramid Head walk by

I think I'm close to point where I stopped playing before.

I'm not that concerned with trophy hunting but it's still kinda lame that they had achievements in the 360 version but nothing for PS3.

I'm currently playing Silent Hill 3, near the end

I heard 4: The Room is on PC, might have to get that at some point. Never played it.

Maybe I'll continue making my way through these games if I can get access to them

No and no, but there are good reasons for this:

--The SH film is a mash-up: SH1 story, SH2 presentation, SH3 elements, re-cast with a mother looking to cure her daughter (Gans, Dir.). SH Homecoming is cast with an ex-soldier who returns home to search for his brother (Allen, LD). The only things these two releases have in common are the tropes that *all* SH releases have in common.

--Homecoming is action-y with an action-y protagonist (skilled with weapons): not a traditional design, but a good combination. It has many good places but boss battles feel out-of-place.

--Downpour is action-y with a traditional SH protagonist (not skilled with weapons): not a traditional design *and* a bad combination. The best place in Downpour is the Orphanage, but the *big end-boss* battle feels like something out of Psychonauts. lol
.

Btw, SH Revelations (SH2 film) tried to re-imagine SH3 as a sequel to SH (film), but the FNAF/3D treatment ruined the atmosphere.

In the sewer now but I'm gonna stop for the day.

i thought downpour was pretty bad but in a "this game is kinda boring" sort of way. homecoming was more of a "holy hell this game is wearing the franchise's skin poorly" sort of thing
