Apparently according to reddit the reason why NY Covid19 cases are increasing is because of Orthodox Jews or something.

Something about they had massive holidays mid September where alot of them didn't practice social distancing or mask wearings

What's the point of locking down zip codes? I assume these people can get outside of the zip code within a reasonable amount of time to go to stores elsewhere

At this point locking stuff down is just saying you want businesses to go bankrupt. In my state 20% of all restaurants have permanently closed with many many more on the verge. Another extended lockdown would up that 20% to well over 50% most likely. Trying to prevent the spread only does so much good if you put hundreds of thousands of people out of work and then have the state trying to pay unemployment when its already broke.

The city should probabaly be focusing more on the mass evictions on the horizon, its damaged beyond repair economy, the business and people who will never return and the subsequent decrease in their tax revenue.

i'm all for respecting holy days but they need to do it in a safe manner. spreading covid to others isn't a safe manner.

The thing I don't understand is what's gonna stop these people from going to places not on lockdown. It seems silly and won't really protect those of us not in those zip codes.

There's really no other practical choice when cases are spiking. Restaurants are not essential and in a covid and post-covid world, maybe restaurants don't have a place.

In general, NY's fantastic success story in the pandemic is starting to slowly unweave.

Want to know when the stable, low numbers in NY started to tick back up? After they started cramming children back into schools.

no, school literally opened up last week, the spike in cases has to do with the Hasidic high holidays and a holiday spike

Its not. It flawed in thinking people conduct all their activities in their own zip code rather than traveling to other zip codes to work, go to school, shop, or even hang out with their friends. But this is Dem leadership so they must know something we don't.

Hotspots are popping up all over NYC and LI because people here stopped giving a fuck. Masks are basically optional and too many people have gone back to the usual.

There's more to NY State than the city, you know. School opened the beginning of September the rest of the state.

See, nowhere did I specify NYC when posting this, especially considering NYC was never a success story in the pandemic lol.

These are zipcodes that are boarding mines. They are all Hasidic Jewish neighborhoods that live in their own little bubble. I sometimes wish my train can skip over their stations.

Yeah, because the Republican presidential administration that has COVID running through it is something we should all strive to be.
