Out of these options it is probably FDR despite the internment camps.

Like in terms of domestic economic policy he was pretty great.

JFK was killed because he cared too much about the American people. It's either him or Teddy Roosevelt.

Also, Bill Clinton is on here? And NOT JFK? Bad poll.

Id say thats more on Grant when you get down to it. Lincoln had to go through what, 4 or 5 picks before he finally gave the job to someone competant?

To be fair, Grant's strategy was basically to throw as many bodies into the wood chipper as possible. it worked, but that takes.a special type of person.

if you mean his warning to not form political parties, I agree. so much of american politics is tied up in party bullshit. and our country has suffered. especially in recent history. I wonder if it would be possible to actually end parties

I think most scholars/historians consider Abraham Lincoln to be the best president. But he was a war-time president. We never got to see how he'd be as a peacetime president, unfortunately.

James K. Polk could be seen as an objective "best president" even if he's not well-liked or did controversial things. He's the only US president to accomplish every single promise he made and he did it all in one term.

LBJ would definitely be really high if not for the utter, pointless horror of Vietnam. He was amazing on domestic policy.

It's not like he didn't try. He secured a peace deal in 1968, but Nixon blew it up.

It's not like he started involvement in Vietnam, either. The US had been sending "military advisors" to Vietnam since 1955, not unlike current American foreign policy. He's obviously not blameless, but it definitely doesn't all fall on him, either.

Lincoln followed by FDR. We'd be in a far more equal country racially if Lincoln had lead Reconstruction rather than a bottom three President in Johnson who let the KKK do whatever they want.

FDR is easily the GOAT when it comes to domestic economics. His record on race related things and many foreign policy blunders (admittedly pretty much anyone would have screwed up horribly back then) takes him below Abe.

Teddy. FDR overstepped the amount of power the prez should have, even though it was for the common good. Ronnie was in the right place at the right time. Bush Jr was compassionate but bumbling and part of the power hungry party. Slick Willie was also kinda in the right place at the right time. Abe was another in the right place at the right time and wasn't a whole dickhead and hardhead. Woodrow was a bigot and didn't care what kind of platform he ran on as long as he won (he kept us out of war, then he had us hel pin war, wtf, which one?).

Teddy was the rough riding, trust busting, Nobel prize winning, national parks founding, asthmatic athlete and hunter, first to have a black person through the White House front door...I mean, usually the guy who gets thrown out of the party is too hardcore, but not wrong
