kinda frustrated with WoFF since my save file's like at the end but then i got distracted away and it's been over a year i think now with the game taking up 10 gigs on my switch

I don't really think it's fair to consider Seymour some sort of "goat" here. I mean I can almost guarantee he doesn't have the worst stats of the characters which remain and has been in the top 15 the last three contests. I dunno, do I think he can win a finals? Maybe, who knows really. There are champions that have won that you'd certainly say wouldn't have before they did and they also have poorer stats than Seymour does. Now many of those characters wouldn't win again perhaps, but what caused them to win the first time? There are a lot of circumstances involved in winning this sometimes. This "goat" term was born when XIII destroyed two historically weak characters in the finals; Seymour is not a historically weak character, nor is this a one off run. I dunno, as someone that legit has this character as his #1 it's a little annoying to see him compared to those characters. No offense to their runs or anything as yeah, people liked them enough for it to happen, but they aren't anyone's #1 character. They haven't had someone pushing them as their priority for over a decade in this contest either.

I really only desire the top 5 because I set a realistic goal for myself. That doesn't mean I'd not love to see Seymour in the finals or even win, obviously. Ultimately, any long-time player desires to see their #1 get the win.

Goat doesn't mean anything other than someone you'd take to the finals for a sure win. Seymour could be #1 in the stats, but if he can't beat anyone, he's a goat.

Not like I meant any offense by it. I think Vincent would be the goat here too aside from Delita (and Seymour). Maybe others use the term goat less liberally but to me if I'm a fan of the 6 non-Delita/Seymour characters left, I want Delita or Seymour in the final because it's practically a guaranteed win and that to me makes them a finals goat. I'm sure by even saying this I'm swaying people to want to save them in a final if they make it but that's just how I see it. Has nothing to do with stats

This whole post is of course excluding some sort of Steiner level collusion as well

Seymour is consistently the first saved. At this point in the contest, you can't chalk that up 1 or 2 dedicated traders. He is the strongest, and I'd say anyone in the finals with him is a goat!

I would definitely say Seymour is favored against Cecil (Repeat bias and I wonder if people are just fatigued about IV) and I think Seymour vs Barret would be close.

Delita is unfavored against a lot of characters just because hes not from a big 4 game but I do think he could do surprisingly respectable in a finals match

VII, IX, X, VI

Like VI isn't as successful as the other set but there's still 6 finals appearances as a whole from them (Celes, Edgar, Terra, Sabin, Kefka, Locke) and the game is still beloved on board 8. Coincidentally, all four are probably the strongest in a Contest setting

I think Delita loses finals no matter who he's against, with Seymour maybe being the character he'd come closest against. The odds of Delita or Cecil making finals is also really low I would say.

oh so that's what you meant in response to me saying i didn't think Squall would make the finals. to me 4 is a really weird cutoff, it's either big 3 - VI, VII, X. or big 5 - VI-X. but that's in general, i guess in SMFFFC terms those 4 are a cut above.

Yeah VIII always just feels kinda like a black sheep and while there's plenty of quality in there it always seems to match up against VII and that goes poorly for it. Squall kinda just transcends because he has Kingdom Hearts.

Maybe Squall wins this and ushers a VIII renaissance with Selphie/Laguna/Seifer/Rinoa/Doomtrain/Angelo all winning

And on Seymour, if I vote him it will be out of Spira loyalty or bc his savers helped carry my main further than he otherwise would've gone. I'm just not that drawn to villains in this series. I get that everybody worries about their main but really he and Tifa seem set for a while.

Eh I think it's just that FFVIII of all games leans harder on its protagonist than most. I can see it being harder for someone to latch onto the other party members when they don't have clear character arcs and moments that help make them memorable.

(Although watch out for Rinoa some day! If she gets a cool KH role or FF8R becomes a thing, I think she's gonna skyrocket in popularity)

i agree with VIII having more focus on its protagonist, and i think that's much more important in terms of his SMFFFC success vs the rest of the cast, but god damn did Squall get an enormous boost in the character battle after KH. way bigger than Cloud or Seph.
