They changed music and their songs will be listened to forever. People ITT just hating the Beatles because they are popular, I thought that stopped being cool after the 70s. No, they were just the only band of the 50s that people actually cared about. Without googling it, tell me 1 other band that was around in the 50s. I have a hard time believing that people have a sweet clue who The Diamonds were, or The Drifters. Meanwhile if you move to the 60s, you have bands like Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, CCR, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the list goes on. I'm not saying they didn't have an impact or weren't talented, I'm just saying that their popularity was boosted by the lack of competition during that era, at least when it comes to bands. Also, The reason there was no competition at that time was because none of those bands would've really happened if it weren't for The Beatles writing mega hits that touched everyone from the most casual of listener to the most hardcore musicians. There weren't bands like that.. much less bands that actually evolved and completely broke away from their style to create completely new images and break away from commercial radio. Even serious Jazz giants appreciated their albums and contributions to popular music. They were so good at writing songs and catchy tunes that even stuff that wouldn't normally get accepted became commercial radio tunes. Their personalities evolved from making little girls and grown men cry to artists who really didn't care to answer questions like 'did you drop acid?' in public and broke that whole image. People still continued to love them despite something weird like that happening on TV. Everyone including film makers, actors, comedians, painters, and of course musicians were influenced by them (second link has all sorts of people including Spielberg and the first link is about The Revolver album alone.. the Sgt.
