I've played through OOT3D before years ago and off and on since but didn't recall any changes other than graphics.

Haven't played MM3D yet (so you'd think that would be the obvious choice but I'm still conflicted) but I assumed it was mostly a graphics upgrade too

What did they change

MM had the physics engine slightly tweaked in regards to jumping/floating, which makes a certain Lilypad section not very fluid at all compared to n64. Also swimming is a lot more restrictive.

Iron Boots were equippable like any other item, didn't have to go through menus repeatedly for the water temple and whatnot, which made those parts way less frustrating

I don't remember any other major changes, I know there weren't any that actively made the game worse like MM3D's bosses

The graphics have been changed to make everything brighter/make the colors more saturated. It robs the world of a lot of its atmosphere of dread and despair (which was an important part of the game). They also changed all the boss fights to focus on hitting a giant eyeball, completely changed the Zora swimming mechanics (to the point that it's no longer fun), and made some other minor changes (like, I think you can no longer get the Stone Mask before going into the Pirate Fortress).

I think either one.

That said, I think MM's remake REALLY improves the environments dramatically. They put so much effort into the architecture and details of items placed around that game, and I love how more dramatic the sky gets when the moon gets closer.

It's funny you said that right before I said the opposite opinion about the updated colors in the MM remake.

The higher saturation in the color scheme actually makes the game resemble the official art more closely. I don't think it robs MM of its dread, I think it enhances the uncanny atmosphere and allows the game to have more unique environments, instead of washing everything out the same way.

For Master Quest in OoT3D, they doubled damage and mirrored the world. Both great changes, it made it so much more fun.

MM 3D made all the bosses a lot worse (good ideas, bad execution). It made some things "easier," but made the game more restrictive in other ways. Like others said, Deku Link's water hopping is ruined for some reason. Zora swimming is changed, but you can sort of mitigate that issue by drinking chateu romani (the swimming is the same when you're using magic). They also make time go a little faster, so you can no longer beat the game in just two cycles without major glitches.

Speaking of glitches, OoT 3D intentionally left in most of the glitches to preserve the spirit of the game. MM3D did not even try this.

MM3D does have some cool environments though. They made it look good

Difference of opinion, I suppose. I also find the official artwork is still darker than MM3DS came out. I just know that I personally don't like it as much as the original for the reasons listed.

MM is a really weird game but I guess that's why I went on to like SH and whatever cause really the atmosphere of the weight of the world (or the moon) really made it seem like Link was going to fail in succeeding to save Termina

Even when you reverse time you're basically just at the beginning of the end of the world

OoT is where all my memories are as a kid though and the sense of adventure there and structure of the dungeons are fantastic and so is the uniqueness of each location

Then FromSoft stuff came out and I was like 'Man, imagine?' Especially Bloodborne cause I just see that as REmake: Majora's Mask nowadays
