For the past three years, for nine months of every year, there has been incessant construction on my streets. First they dug massive holes and filled them in. Then they dug out the sewer, and now the hole digging crew is back.

Each crew shows up at 7am and fires on engines of their routing machines, jack hammer attachments on their dozers, power saws to saw through concrete. They leave the engines running until 5pm and you hear beeping of backing up trucks all day. Its almost like someone is driving around e block in reverse.

The noise is so loud that you cannot sleep through it. If you want to sleep past 7am, theres nothing you can do. If you want to take a nap before 5pm, then youre screwed. You cant hear the TV over it, so you really cant entertain yourself until they leave at 5pm, except for the fact that they usually stay late and show up early.

None of them are city workers, either. The city subs these contracts out so the citizens dont know who to complain to. When you call the city, they wont give you the name and phone number of the individual who plans this out. They obviously only keep one work crew at a time, so someone knows that my street is constantly under construction.

In case you were wondering, be neighborhood looks perfectly fine. This summers little busywork project was to fix nonexistent cracks in the sidewalks. Basically, someone at the city councils cousin or brother in law needed money, so they gave him some work on the taxpayers money. Seriously, if you want to do that, just write the guy a check. I am sick of the noise.

Oh yeah, road construction is upwards of 90% corruption.

There are so many other streets to work on. I know it seems like an exaggeration, but there is always a work crew within earshot of my property. Some people work a night shift. Not to mention that theyre constantly driving dump trucks and cats on tracks down the street, which will destroy the asphalt and give them next summers work. They are acting like this is the only street in the city.

How do you feel about climate change?

I think that gas motors are a big factor and its proven that they are harmful to the ozone. When you have multiple engines running for ten hours, that adds up. When its necessary, its necessary, but thats not the case. Theyre using heavy equipment like bobcats and dump trucks, which they leave running all day long, just to fix some invisible cracks in the sidewalk. Its overkill and this useless busywork is one of the biggest contributing factors to climate change and damage to the ozone.

As I type this, theyre backing in a conveyor which is mounted on a massive truck. I have no idea what this could even be for, but it looks like things are about to get even louder than this morning. There was a two day break between fixing the cracks and whatever project theyre starting now.
