This would kick off a full-scale civil war. The Supreme Court would directly be ruling against the will of the people.

i doubt they'd risk their legitimacy, but all the more reason to make sure the senate has no more than 49 republicans.

what do they actually gain? four more years of policy? if they help the republicans go full fascist, they lose all their power. if they're only trying to jam as much bullshit through in the short window of relevancy they have left, then it all gets overturned anyway when that window shuts. and the abuse of power only leads to more people being willing to shut that window immediately.

i'm not saying it's impossible, it just seems shortsighted.

Rule in his favor for what? Whats the legal issue that would necessitate the involvement of the Supreme Court?

Correct, as was the case with Bush

This is an arguably fearmongerish oversimplification of what happened in 2000.

Gore may have won? And he may not have. Under the machine-recount method they actually used, Bush won, but under a by-hand recount Gore may have won. The Supreme Court said that they couldn't do a by-hand recount basically because they would have to use that same method in all counties, and because there wasn't enough time to do that method before the deadline set by United States Code. This all happened by the way because of how insanely close the Florida election was, something that is not going to happen again in our lifetimes.

That is still controversial of course but to act like Gore actually won the election and Bush just ignored that and stole it is an oversimplification at best and disinformation at worst. The Supreme Court invalidating all mail in ballots or just ignoring the results and declaring Trump the winner would be on an entirely different level (and frankly is not going to happen).

SCOTUS can't override electors. That's not how it works. They can permit / deny extended recounts but they can't go "nah that state got it wrong the other side won"

Yeah that's what I say every time I see someone post this nonsense. There is zero way the Supreme Court could ever just say "Biden won but nope Trump is president again." That's just not how it works.

I think even if the the court is Republican they would not be worried about Trump at that point. If it is obvious he loses the court would have no obligation to him. Most normal Republicans would want him out of the way I'm sure. His overzealous crazy base really isn't that many people. Most are just trolling online and would do nothing in real life.
