Don't come in here telling me that Ice is the worst type because at the very least, Ice fucks up ground, flying, grass, and most importantly, dragon types and those kind are strong af. Rock tho? Steel makes that shit obsolete.

Pokemon's battle system is fucking stupid, it's literally just hard counters with people locked into their shit, you either know their deck and build around it, or you just guess and let RNG decide if you win or not.

They both have too many weaknesses, but Rock at least has some resistances. Ice resists only itself, which is absolutely pathetic. I'm pretty sure there are more viable Rock type Pokemon than Ice ones at least.

Weak to flying, ice, poison, fire, bug and if they are dual types it just adds to their weakness like say adding dark to it, now it's weak to bug x2 with the addition of weakness to fairy and fighting so this one pokemon has seven weaknesses to kill it most of which are full of common moves most pokemon with high attack stats get

Rock at least has the special defense bonus when sandstorm is up. Ice typing is basically always a detriment defense-wise, and water types (probably the best type overall) tend to have most ice moves for coverage. Bug might be overall the weakest type, even if it is my favorite. Bug is also terrible defensively, but everything bug is super effective against is also weak to other common attacking types, like dark and fire.

Also like a poster above said, water Pokmon can almost all learn moves like ice beam which makes running an ice type redundant/unnecessary. Only ice type I can see being run viably is the kyurem line.

That's why Ice is the worst. Ice type Pokemon generally need to be fast and hit hard to be worth anything. Rock Pokemon have a bit more leeway simply because they've got some solid resistances to work with.

Not sure if it applies to singles, but in VGC Lapras and Alolan Ninetales to a lesser extent are used for aurora veil shenanigans. Mamoswine and Weavile drift in and out of relevance depending on what's around in the meta. At the very least Rillaboom has been keeping a lot of water types in check with it's priority grass move in grassy terrain.

One weakness and one immunity. But normal type attacks hit all but what, three types for neutral (and one is ghost which it's also immune to). They also tend to have massive type coverage via TMs and breeding. Hell, the two best breeding fodder things are normal types. And unlike ice where things tend to either have defensive stat spreads, normal types run all over the place so there's plenty of spots for them across all tiers.

Offensively, ice is useful. Defensively, they're basically like paper. So it IS the weakest type, unfortunately.

I'm pretty certain it was it's ability Gorilla Tactics was the reason for it's banned. As it stacked with Choice Band and Choice Scarf for +2 Atk or +1 Atk and +1 Spd respeectively.

Bug. There like 1 good bug type. Sure, it has it's advantages, but everyone of them sucks, and unless a new move was introduced in the last couple gens: all the moves suck too.

Rock has great offensive coverage, and just so happens to get uniformly high defense stats to offset their awful defensive coverage. It's basically ice type's slightly less do-or-die cousin.

They have a terrain now with a great terrain setter in Rillaboom (who last I checked a few months ago is one of the most used Pokemon for competitive because of it). They also always had a place on sun teams since they could check rock, ground, and water types with a no charge solar beam. They also have some great status/support moves in spore, sleep powder, and leech seed (and stun powder though thunder wave is usually better for paralysis).

Like. Why couldn't they make ice at least resist fairy when they introduced them? :/

Poison beats fairies which makes it far from being the worst. If poison wasn't strong against Fairies, it would be the worst type as it does nothing else that other types can't already do.
