...is one of the cleverest ways to justify a launch console purchase despite having a paltry launch lineup.
Really surprised MS went so hard with backwards compatibility, but the results I've seen on YouTube are amazing. Games like DOA, which ran at around 40 ish fps at 4K, now lock at 60fps. Why couldn't anyone accomplish this with their consoles before? This basically has never been a thing. Like for example yeah you get color with GameBoy games on GBC and GBA, but it doesn't fix slowdowns or anything like that. It takes effort and forward thinking. Sony and Nintendo would rather just resell the popular games to you again if they can't cram in old hardware in their new system. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... Copied to Clipboard!

Architecture of the Xbox, more or less to sum it up being very "universal" and identical to x86 PC development. Sony has had four radically different dev kits / architecture designs that make backwards compatibility be more like emulation than anything else. Why couldn't anyone accomplish this with their consoles before? CPU performance went up several orders of magnitude in consoles this generation. GPU power 2x-3x the One X / PS4 Pro. Even though PS5 also uses a similar architecture as Series X, it's weirdly proprietary with how it shunts power to the GPU and CPU depending on demandNo, the power shunting has been in AMD products when it works with their own GPU's. PS5 games should benefit from similar performance gains from unpatched titles that use variable resolutions and framerates but;
- Microsoft developed a lot of their games with variable resolutions and framerate modes knowing that future hardware will boost them more while Sony has generally stuck with solid resolutions or checkerboarding - Microsoft are willing to upgrade more first party titles for free than Sony - Microsoft are willing to upgrade some older titles themselves with HDR or doubling framerates So Xbox gets to take advantage of it more often. Luckily Sucker Punch is planning to patch the game to 60fps on PS5 so that should be neat. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... Copied to Clipboard!

Remasters usually have substantial improvements though. Saying your games run at a slightly higher framerate isn't very significant for the majority of consumers. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. And the Series X can take a 900p@30fps to 4k@60fps. That's more than a slightly higher bump. And HDR on some of those games to boot. And this is all for "free." So you can buy a game that you've never played before, or grab any game out of your backlog, and play it looking much better than ever. Remember, MS is in third place, so they are trying to entice people that have missed years of their exclusives as well. --- Holy crap! How have I not set a signature for the message boards yet? ... Hopefully. The fact that Pro does jack shit (well, 2fps gains) with unsupported games leaves me skeptical. Have we seen PS5 improvements to BC games without a dedicated patch? The problem with PS4 Pro is that the GPU power was doubled but the CPU remained the same with a slight clockspeed boost. The reason that's a problem is that games across the board this generation tended to be CPU-limited at 1080p or lower. So unless a game was designed for PS4 Pro, it didn't really improve much. The PS5 and XSX both have vaaaaaaastly better CPUs than their predecessors, even as compared to their GPUs. --- Razer Blade 15 - Core i7-9750H, 32 GB HyperX XMP RAM, 2 TB Samsung Evo Plus m.2 NVME SSD, RTX 2080 MQ ...
