Maybe they wont actually do anything but this is pretty nuts. They said it isnt them but I wouldnt take that as fact. Ill quote the email first then the article.

Email:
"Hi (name) We are in possession of all your information You are currently registered as a Democrat and we know this because we have gained access into the entire voting infrastructure. You will vote for Trump on Election Day or we will come after you. Change your party affiliation to Republican to let us know you received our message and will comply. We will know which candidate you voted for. I would take this seriously if I were you. (Voter's address)"

https://www.yahoo.com/news/come-voters-report-personalized-emails-044725400.html

Law enforcement and election officials are investigating threatening emails sent to voters in multiple Florida counties pressuring them to vote for President Donald Trump and claiming to be from a far-right group with a history of violent confrontations.
The emails, which appeared to be sent from "[email protected]," said the group had obtained contact information about the voter and threatened to come after the person if they dont vote for Trump
The Proud Boys, a group that catapulted to national attention in September when Trump dodged a chance to condemn them, denied responsibility and condemned the emails.
"No, it wasnt us. The people (who sent the emails) used a spoofing email that pretended to be us," Enrique Tarrio, international chairman of the Proud Boys, told USA TODAY. Whoever did this should be in prison for a long time."
Email spoofing is a technique commonly used by scammers to fool victims by making them believe the email comes from a source other than the scammer.
Tarrio said the emails in this case showed signs they were spoofed and said he is working with law enforcement to address the issue. It is voter intimidation, no matter if it came from us or it didnt which it didnt."
Who are the Proud Boys? Far-right group has concerned experts for years
Voter intimidation is a federal offense subject to up to one year imprisonment.
In addition to Florida, similar emails have also been reported in other states, including Alaska and Arizona, according to The Washington Post and the Anchorage Daily News.
The Florida emails appear to follow a similar, although not entirely uniform, format:
"Hi (name) We are in possession of all your information You are currently registered as a Democrat and we know this because we have gained access into the entire voting infrastructure. You will vote for Trump on Election Day or we will come after you. Change your party affiliation to Republican to let us know you received our message and will comply. We will know which candidate you voted for. I would take this seriously if I were you. (Voter's address)"
'Reclaim our pride': Gay men take over Proud Boys hashtag on Twitter
A voter's name, address, email and date of birth are public record, according to the states division of elections website. Who a voter casts a ballot for is not.
The Alachua County Sheriffs Office in Florida said in a Facebook post that the messages appear to be a scam.
Election officials said Tuesday they'd heard of dozens of the emails, but were unsure of whether they were solely sent to registered Democrats.
Donald Schwinn, 85, a snowbird registered to vote in Melbourne Beach, received one, telling FLORIDA TODAY, part of the USA TODAY Network, that "they're trying to scare people into voting for Trump."
Local officials were scrambling to get on top of the situation on Tuesday.
Kimberly Boelzner, spokesperson for Brevard Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott, said their office had received several reports of such emails and were awaiting guidance from the state division of elections.
"We're advising voters to report it to local law enforcement," she said.
By 6 p.m., Boelzner said her office had received about a dozen emails and a dozen calls about the matter. Scott has been in touch with the FBI and other authorities, she said.
Stacey Patel, chair of the Brevard Democrats, said she received at least five such emails from voters Tuesday and had notified the elections supervisor's office.
"We've not seen this kind of voter intimidation in the past and it's obviously really troubling," she said. In a follow-up text, she said she advises recipients of the email to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI and the Florida Democratic Party Voter Protection team at 1-833-VOTE-FLA.

I feel like the penalty for this should be

1. Prison time
2. Permanent disbarment from owning guns, holding government office, working in the military/police, or voting(Felons should be allowed to vote. Only maliciously interfering in others right to vote, deliberate voter fraud or a government worker commiting treason should strip you of the right to vote)
3. Permanent restraining order against the person you threatened.
4. If any of the perpetrators are in government office(including police) or are poll workers they should be put to death or given life in prison with no chance of parole.

Most spam emails don't have your actual address, party affiliation and name with implied death threats.

I laugh when some dude wants me to send me 100k$ dollar.

I am not laughing when he actually has information on me and threatens me.

If you TRULY think the Proud Boys are going to show up at your house and physically harm you then you are delusional as hell.

Here's an example, the other day I answered a scam call from a middle eastern guy telling me my Social Security number was being used for drugs and terrorism and shit. I told him to take those drugs and shove them up his ass. He said he was going to kill my mother. I laughed and said good luck buddy. I'm not scared or upset. I just laughed it off.

Some people would, some people wouldn't. Some people aren't sure if they are or aren't in danger after seeing an email like that and will ask someone who is tech savvy (like a tech support rep, for example) for guidance. The way you would handle a situation isn't necessarily the way someone else would handle a situation.

Nobody here is fooled by this shit but some of the people getting this email are going to be 85 year old people who still fall for "Microsoft support" scam calls and are generally the person you're describing and are the reason why Adult Protection Services exists. This may only affect a few thousand people in the whole country but that could actually be enough to make a difference.

The problem here is that you're refusing to look at it from anyone's viewpoint but your own. Yes, YOU would see thorough this. So would some other people. However, there are a number of people out there who might not see through this because they don't understand technology as well and assume it's real.

The reason the Nigerian email scam has been going for so long is because they actually convince people to send them money. Not you. Not anyone you know, but there are people out there who actually get fooled by them.

Banks have protocols to warn their customers against doing this if they suspect this might be going on. Most companies out there worth their salt have IT security departments that regularly review suspicious emails their users send them.

And again, it's not about "Freaking out about a spam email." It's about understanding the fact that some people might think that email is real and do as the email instructs.
