I love FF6 and it's one of my all time favorites but CT is just revolutionary especially for its time.

I honestly never got how this was close and I'm on the losing end. Chrono Trigger somehow never clicked for me.

CT easily. Neither are perfect but I actually enjoyed CT. Only part of FF6 I really enjoyed was the Phantom Train.

Chrono Trigger is just the better package overall imo.

Personally I feel like FF6 did a better job at fleshing its characters out, however I found none of them interesting so the parts where they fleshed them out fell flat for me. Gau in particular was just dumb.

I think this is a pretty good way of putting it. Chrono Trigger's plot is bit more simplistic and it doesn't have the same level of character development as FFVI.

FF6 for me, but a lot of that is nostalgia and bias on my end, honestly. I respect any opinion pegging CT as the better game. But as an FF fan, FF6 was absolutely revolutionary and a shitload of fun for what it was back in the day.

Its one of the last times I remember being genuinely sad at the end of the game, only because I just didnt want it to end.

CT. I've never understood FF6's GOAT status. It's mediocre to me

CT is certainly the more polished and consistent game, but FFVI is a bit meatier, and I prefer its story and characters (the important ones of course). I think I'd go with the latter, but only just.

I wonder if a game like Live-A-Live would have ended up featured alongside this poll if it actually came to US.

For some reason I could never get into FF6. I tried 3-4 times, but after a 5-10 hours I always stopped for some reason.

Chrono Trigger is amazing.

Probably not since its anthology structure would likely turn off a lot of people. Rpg fans tend to want big long epic adventures.

CT is a very clean and faster experience. FFVI is much longer and has good parts and bad parts.

Its a toss up imo.

Definitely FF6

Chrono Trigger was great but at the end of the day FF6 had the best setpieces and scenes. Only a few things really stand out for me in Chrono Trigger and they were often marred by being too short.

Carnival
Magus Castle
Post apocalyptic race
Zeal

Those were the highlights for me. Compare with FF6

Narshe intro + moogle defense
Phantom Train
Opera
Sealed Kingdom
Floating Continent
Shipwrecked Celes

Plus FF6 had better gimmicks like splitting up the party and the World of Ruin was much more interesting than post Zeal after Crono dies

FF6 gets my vote, but it's a close call. Basically boils down to World of Ruin and misc side quests all being better than the storyline after Chrono's death and misc sidequests..

Kefka's tower (and to a lesser extent -- saving Terra, defending Tritoch, and Phoenix Cave) is such a great segment.

CT has a better overall soundtrack, but FF6 has better tracks (namely the Opera and Dancing Mad)

chrono trigger for me. ffvi is fantastic, but never "clicked" for me in the same way. Maybe its because of how downright gloomy the whole game is; as fantastic as ffvi is, chrono trigger just has a world and adventure that I want to play in more.

Narrow edge to Chrono Trigger for me.

I'd give FFVI the edge on plot, characters. worldbuilding/design, and music, but Chrono Trigger the edge on graphics, pacing, and especially gameplay.

But I'd say both are easily top five, if not top three, SNES titles for me.

FF6, but its pretty close. FF6's my favorite SNES game, CT is either 2nd or 3rd (not sure if i'd put it over or under LTTP).

At the time Chrono Trigger, and it's easy to understand why. It's kind of shallow and simplistic, but it's full of cute characters and probably the most polished jrpg on the console production-wise that came out in the US.

Nowadays I much prefer FF6. There's so much meat in that game and it lets you off your leash more than CT does which I'm a big fan of in JRPGs

I didn't vote since I haven't played FFVI, but it's definitely one of the games that's on the top of the list for me to play.

CT is my favorite game of all time though, so I'm really excited to play FFVI
