Because Mickey Rooney is funny. The rest of it's pretty dull though I guess some women at the time could relate to the main character or something. And it has a famous song.

I saw it a few years ago and thought it was super boring and racist.

And Audrey is iconic Audrey in this one. Having said that, I was done with her character when she let the cat out of the car....I couldn't deal with that.
