Especially a dead end job

I would think people would fall in line and listen more and be submissive if they wanna keep their jobs. Especially if theyre in a dead end job where a lot of those guys probably have no other options except to listen and take the yelling.

Oooh, this falls under my specialty - positivity and high expectations are what drive a team

syre you can yell at people but praising those doing a good job actually incentives those who are falling behind

in general you want your employees to feel empowered to make decisions, like what they do matters, and that they have control over their own destiny. most jobs you can just yell at people and force them to take it are low paying so they can take a job elsewhere.

By dead end job you mean like McDonalds?

Its easy to quit those jobs. Theyll just leave and work somewhere else. Then whoever bosses you will notice you cant keep employees and make your life miserable

A few reasons:

1. Lowers morale, and low morale is shown to cause low productivity. It incentivizes bare minimum effort

2. Likely to have a high turnover rate

3. Yelling at people in these low income type jobs is just asking to catch a right hook. People downtrodden enough at the bottom of the totem pole might deem it worth it to just kick your ass for yelling at them, which brings me to my personal opinion:

You're just a fucking prick if you yell at your employees. You'll probably end up in an unhappy marriage or just die alone because no one actually loves those types of people

if you need to raise your voice to your employees when you already literally have their careers in your hands you're probably not a very talented manager. it smacks of displaced bully and personality issues.

not to mention the obvious lack of composure.

You are completely correct.

The problem is, at least in the US, we are still fighting the GPD war.
Which is completely unconducive to decency, and a plague on physical, and mental health.

It just isn't an effective strategy for most people, you can't really yell someone into submission without them putting up some sort of resistance/reaction that's bred in all human beings

In terms of just what it does to their work you have to ask yourself if they would do more work getting all groggy and lazy about the work they're doing or if you can provide a helping hand and encouraging them to work harder

I saw this play out alot when I was serving and bartending.. people would get shitty customers, they'd get all down about it, and then I'd have to hear a whole swath of 'well they're a piece of ****' (justifiably so)

But that doesn't help them get through anything - I was better off just motivating them to think of their next table and focusing on just working the rest of their 6 hours without that sort of thing hanging over their head because it would continually burn them up for the entirety of those 6 hours

Why is CE acting like a bunch of tough guys? If your boss is rude to you, what are you going to do? You're going to take it. Because if you don't, your boss will either fire you or you will quit. All because of misplaced pride. Meanwhile, your boss can replace you super easily, while you struggle to find jobs that will call you for an interview.

Do you live in the US? If you do, rudeness is perfectly normal in the US. We live in a country where rudeness is a common communication between people. If you're not able to take it, you're going to have a lot of trouble

Yelling at people and being a dick will make them hate you, do the bare minimum and leave the second they get offered another job.

Motivation is a big deal. If your employees don't care about your company or your vision then you're in trouble

There's a difference between being ABLE to take it, and choosing not to.

and the biggest reason why there are so many rude assholes is because there's too many spineless jellyfish who don't know what they're worth and won't stand up for themselves.

There's no such thing. If you choose not to take it, there's only one reason for that. Because you're pissed that someone is treating you that way. The moment you stand up for yourself, you're risking the security of your job, because you could be fired.

I do.

I don't care about what's normal. I only care about what I'm willing to put up with and I don't care to be yelled at, for any reason.

And I did. The normalization of dickhead managerial behavior was a big contributor to my musical chairs approach to work until I found the wonderful world of self-employment. Now I only put up with dickheads yelling at me if I want to and I know it's worth it.

Not everyone is a decent employee. It's either yell at them or fire them sometimes. The manager is being lazy by yelling, but the alternative is you're given no second chances. A no call/no show is often grounds for termination. Would you rather be yelled at in that situation or fired?

To answer, TC. It does work to an extent but it's putting a bandaid in a problem.
