I usually save it for last and just have an extra crusty sammich with the two end pieces. It doesn't help that I can't eat gluten and a lot of gluten free bread loaves are really short.

Yep, I do the ol' reach around because I don't want an uneven sandwich. I'll use it if I reach the other end or if I'm just going to use one slice.
