I think they will always be economically conservative, but they have to realize that screwing over large groups of people and denying science is bad and that some things are worth spending money on (which they do realize, but anything that they don't think is worth spending money on is socialism to them).

Basically universal health care being on the table is the benchmark for that tbh

I doubt they will ever be perfect. No party is ever going to be perfect. But right now even with their faults Democrats are the better party.

No, it doesn't. Economically conservative can be as simple as wanting to balance the budget.

Yes, balance the budget by cutting services that help black and brown and poor people. Of course this always comes after they were the ones who ran up the deficit in the first place.

The limited spending talking point really only came into popularity as part of the welfare queen narrative

On one hand I do think that poor people shouldn't get fucked over financially for accidents/sickness that is outside of their control. On the other hand I don't trust the U.S. government to do anything actually beneficial for the citizenry when they've proven time and time again that corporate interests come before the interests of the people.

Balancing the budget can be achieved either by decreasing spending and taxes or by increasing spending and taxes. There is a balance that has to be achieved and there is not only one way to address this.

For example no one but the most extreme conservative would want to get rid of police or roads even though they cost money.

How are you balancing the budget when both of those options effectively cancel each other out? Increasing taxs while the economy is good, while decreasing spend is the only realistic option.

Or it would be if people were willing to cut cost.

All you really have to do is break even.

We also have a huge national debt, but that's another issue that may or may not really hurt us in the future.

The thing about universal health care specifically (or universal Medicare specifically) is that it arguably could cost less overall than the system we use. Plus it would stop tying health care to your job which absolutely sucks.

I really don't care about high taxes as long as they are fair and whatever they pay for is worth it. Like I have no problem with getting rid of the FICA tax upper income limit.
