If so, what happened?

I did. A bit of back story - I was an extremely quiet and shy kid. Super tiny. I didn't even grow until well after high school. The point is, I was largely invisible to most. There was this girl I was OBSESSED with. I remember seeing her for the first time in 5th grade and thinking "what the HELL is that thing??". Of course, every other guy also had a crush on her as well.

By the time high school rolled around, she knew I existed and we were friendly, but absolutely not friends. I had a bit of a stutter growing up, so I didn't talk much...but when I did talk to her she actually listened to me and ignored any potential speech issue I may have had. I thought that was so nice. With that said, I mostly admired her from afar. I was absolutely sure, she was the one for me. Everything about her I was attracted to.

Anyway, fast forward 14 years and by this time I had physically changed quite a bit and my speech long cleared up (for the most part). I had just gotten out of a relationship and I found out she did too. I also found out she lived close by.

I make a move. It worked. Went on a date, came back to my place and hung out. Can you believe the thoughts going through my head right now? The tiny kid with the stutter is in bed with the hottest girl from high school. Weird. It was just a great revenge of the nerds moment that really only happens in movies but it was happening to me. From that day forward, we saw eachother every day.

Then she was my girlfriend.

You know, when you're just so excited to be with a person and lift them up on a pedestal, as humans we tend to ignore some major red flags.

Long story short, although gorgeous, she was an emotional mess, her life was a wreck and she really was just not a good person. It was all a facade. Unfortunate. So it ended after like a year.

But at least I got kind of a cool story out of it.

My high school crush became my close friend, and a decade and other relationships later, we ended up dating. It didn't go so well, but we're still close friends. She's in a therapeutic facility currently. I am thinking about proposing to her when she comes out so she can move to Japan with me when I go in September. She'd like to live in Japan too.

If it didn't go so well, why are you thinking about proposing?

I've had crushes play me because they thought there was something to gain there, I've had crushed turn into real relationships or on again off again hookups for a decade.

its just luck of the draw. its close to 50/50 at this point if i do the math looking back.

Nah. Everyone I've dated, I met as an adult. Honestly, when I grew up I realized that most of my crushes were pretty flawed people who I wouldn't have worked with very well.

Naw. The peak in that realm would've been when I was 10. I was in the hot tub at the wave pool and my 16yo neighbor that looked kinda like Brigette Wilson recognized me and came and hung out with me for no reason and my friends thought I was the coolest mutha that ever lived.

But I have been with my wife since we were like teenagers. She was someone I just liked and befriended then here we are. I don't count it at childhood because I was an adult teenager.

I'm sorry, but I'm a bit confused. You said it didn't go so well, so now you're friends. Are you saying you want to give the relationship another go...by proposing? Or am I missing something here?

Considering how much I moved around as a child, I'm not sure where any of them would be anyway. And all of my celeb childhood crushes generally wouldn't be accessible. As for high school, I dated a few of my crushes. The ones I was never able to be with for one reason or another mostly aren't hot now anyway. The few that are still pretty cute are several states away so I'm not bothering to try to "slide into the DMs" as you kids say nowadays.

Yes. I had two childhood crushes and I dated them both.

One, I've been having a on/off fling with for the past 25 years.
We both have 3 kids each, so that would just be a ton of kids in the house if we got together for real.

The other; we dated for like 5 years she moved to New York and that killed our relationship.

Nope most of the people I grew up with and/or attended school with I lost touch with long ago. Especially after high school everyone went their own way. Some to college others moved for better economic opportunities etc so I lost touch long ago.

No crush has ever turned into a relationship for me. Every girl I've ever been with, the chemistry and willingness to date each other was almost immediately evident. Any girl I 'crushed' on at best turned into friends or I'd lose my infatuation after I got to know them more.

Not my crush, but when I was in 11th grade, there was a weird freshman girl that would follow me around all of the time. Went on one date after I broke up with my girlfriend, but wasn't feeling it. About 8 years later and after my divorce, I found out she lived around the corner from my job, we met up for drinks, and ended up dating for a little over a year.

Eh, not everybody you date has to be "the one." Unless there's a completely disqualifying factor, I'll still date (or just screw) women who I'm almost certain won't work out in the long run simply because I find them attractive.
