What was the worst injury you ever had as a kid?

When I was a kid, I touched the hot part of a gas heater and got 3rd degree burns.

Had my intestines crushed in a car wreck. Rear middle seatbelt only went across my lap, was thrown forward with enough force to crush them and damage my spine. Doctors didn't treat me, ended up with intestinal gangrene and had to be rushed into emergency surgery to have them cut out.

  • Sprained right wrist. This happened while I was learning cursive, so my handwriting has always been sloppy.
  • While playing football with my friends outside my mom's house, someone's finger went underneath my right eyelid.
  • While climbing a tree, I got a small piece of bark in my right eye.

I got hit with a golf club on the orbital bone right beside my eye. I had to get 8 stitches. I was lucky it missed my eyeball, otherwise I would have lost it.

I broke my fingers several times playing basketball. Not major but painful.

Cracked rib in middle school football.

I consider myself very lucky. I loved in line, roller, and ice skating. Fell hard tons of times and never got majority hurt. I also loved to climb trees and fell out of a few and never got major injuries.

Broken arm. Scrawny dude who wanted to play sports with people 3 times my size. Soon as I heal, I'm right back out there. For how much I played, I feel like my injuries weren't really abnormal tho.

When I was 10 or so, someone threw a stick at me that hit me in the eye. It destroyed the lens, I had to have several surgeries, and I still can't see any better than 20/100 out of that eye.

  • shoved a key in an outlet when i was about a year old. apparently it knocked me across the room.
  • broke my ankle playing soccer, didn't find out it was broken until like two weeks later. never really healed right, starts to feel like i've got a joint of ground glass if i run for any significant length.
  • hairline fracture to my radius when some jackass checked me in a soccer game and then immediately fell on top of me. only really remember it because i vividly remember the bone bending, and the memory still makes me nauseous...
  • beyond that the only major medical emergency i've had was an eye surgery, cant really call that in injury though.

I played ice hockey in high school, when I was 16 after being hit hard into the boards, I dislocated my left shoulder and broke my collar bone. Long term led to tendinitis and now tendinosis in my shoulder, probably 3 months out of the year i'm in a ton of pain as a result. I don't take prescription pain killers because they make me constantly feel like I want to vomit and they give me a headache, so I drink heavily instead to ease the pain.

I was running around the house and tripped and hit my forehead on the corner of a wall and split it open, I was around 7 years old at the time and I think I had 7 stitches - so I have a Harry Potter-ish scar there but mine is straight and I'm not a wizard

Funny enough I had something similar happen, although a little more extreme. I was also in the back seat of a car with a two point seatbelt when my dad fell asleep and swerved into oncoming traffic, but I broke two vertebrae, had six inches of my bowels removed and essentially spent the first week in a coma, only waking up momentarily twice. They said if I didnt die Id be paralyzed for life, but somehow ended up walking out of the hospital 20 days after the accident. And apparently I was part of one of the studies done by Nissan that led to them changing their backseat seatbelts from two point to three point, although they came while I was knocked out.

When I was 16 I also had a nasal infection that made its way into my optic cavity that had a 40% chance of killing me. I of course survived but spent around 10 days with a near constant migraine, drugged up in a dark room at the hospital.

Thankfully my back didn't break. No coma either, I did lose 6 inches of intestines though, iirc. The gangrene was the worst part. Thankfully after the surgery I made a quick recovery. I'm glad you're doing well too.

Worst that happened was just wiping out on a skateboard in like the 4th grade and getting a good portion of my face shredded by the asphalt.

One of my teacher's told this story about how his son got his groin stuck in a bike chain and had his scrotum torn open, though. Had me avoiding riding bikes for a while after that.

Thats good. And as I mentioned in the update to the post you quoted (which I assume you didnt get to read) the two point style seatbelts are known to cause these injuries and studies have been done on them.

As a kid? I'd say the time I raced down a slight decline, fell, skinned my palm badly, banged my chin, and caused lesser cut on my other palm.
It stung pretty bad, but looked worse.

The only other big thing I remember was jamming my thumb catching a basketball wrong.

When I was about three or four, my mom and my grandma (who happened to be visiting) told me for some random reason not to climb on the bakers rack. I realized that I had to try it because most of the things adults said not to do were fun (such as swearing or watching horror movies). I came to realize their warnings purpose when I fell and smacked my head into the wood floor. I had to get stitches and the doctor didnt wait for the local anesthetic to kick in. He was triggered because I was probably screaming and carrying on.

(The next two definitely happened each within three years of the first incident, but I cannot remember exactly what order.)

I was playing football with my brother and some other neighborhood kids, but I was the youngest kid there by a lot. Someone fell on me by accident and I broke my collar bone. I had to do everything left handed for a while.

I fell out of the attic once. I fell head-first and and my foot got caught in the hinge. It broke my foot and I fell down the rest of the way. Everyone just thought I was being a crybaby, so I walked on it for two or three days before getting a cast. No big deal, because little kids dont weight that much.

I once had an infection in my finger that was so bad that they almost had to cut it off. Ive also broken some random fingers as a kid.

Thats it for being a kid, but I broke my big toe and my back as an adult.

I once kicked a broken TV set and it damaged the shit out of my big toe. Worst. Pain. Ever.

I actually cant bend mine, either, so maybe I did the same damage. I wonder if theres a surgery thats not super painful and debilitating?

Winded myself and had difficulty breathing so my mom rushed me to the child's ER like 90 minutes away lol because none of the local hospitals were worth anything
