Watched 1 thru part IV earlier this week.

Just started Part V: A New Beginning.

Was the reason ever explained why Roy was able to survive all but being impaled?

No official reason that I know of, but they had to make a convincing case he was Jason.

I watched Part IV last night.

I hadn't noticed before, but Chrissy from the third movie appears to have a cameo in the second scene of the movie where Jason is taken to the hospital on a gurney. There's a teenage girl who has her back to the camera being consoled by her parents. They linger on her too long for her to be a random extra.

It's obviously a different actress, but she has Chrissy's hair -- and Chrissy was the only survivor of the attacks -- so I assume it's her.

Speaking of series spoilers, does Jason drown as a child or not?

Part II says that Jason didn't drown, but instead grew up as a feral child living in the woods. Part VIII seems to imply that Jason did drown. So I guess he grew up as a zombie?

In Part III, his face is deformed but otherwise healthy. In Part IV, which takes place immediately following, his face appears to be decomposing.

The potato sack look taken from The Town That Dreaded Sundown. A local drive-in showed both movies as a double feature. It was super weird seeing two near-identical looking killers in completely different settings. When the Phantom used a gun, I had to remind myself he wasn't Jason.

he was a deformed child and his mother thought he did drown
but he survived and ended up living in the woods away from society
so he was alive in 2 3 and 4
as for his face that was just inconsistency in the make up department. for example he had hair in part 2 but none in part 3.

part 2 3 and 4 all take place over like a single week

its not until part 6 where jason becomes a supernatural killer
also part 8 gave him magic teleporting powers he never had in any other movie
like when he kills eva he somehow magically blocks all the exits so she cant escape

which is a shame cause eva was more likable than the actual part 8 final girl rennie who is the worst in the franchise

also mad props to kelly hu, she didnt have a stunt person for that scene. it really was her getting lifted up by her throat and thrown hard against the floor

Speak of which,

Friday the 13th was originally supposed to be an anthology series. Jason in the second movie and the third movie could've easily been two separate killers. In Part II, he feels pain, gets scared, runs quickly, and is strong without being superhuman. In the third movie, he fears nothing, he feels no pain, and he crushes a man's head with his bare hands.

It's probably for the best that we got an iconic killer in Jason Voorhees, but those totally could've been two different slasher villains had they wanted to stick with the anthology idea.

He died at the end of Part 4. Resurrected in Part 6.
