My mother, I feel, is getting jerked around by Microsoft. I can't call because it is past 5:00pm PST so I'll have to call tomorrow.

But here is the problem.

My nephew is 8 years old. So my mother (his grandmother) buys him Xbox Live subscriptions when he behaves well/performs well in school one moth at a time. During COVID and the shutdowns, she bought him one month so he can entertain himself. When the month expired, Microsoft never deactivated his Xbox Live and of course if he can keep getting and playing online he is going to do so, right?

So now he's doing well in school and my mom tried to buy him a month on live so he can play but it keeps getting blocked. She called Microsoft customer support and these fucking idiots actually pulled the "Well, because of COVID we couldn't deactivate the account due to staffing problems. To get a new subscription for Xbox Live you'll have to pay the $20 for the two months we didn't deactivate the account".

LOL

That is the king of that's Microsoft's fucking problem. It's only $20 but it's the principle of the matter. He didn't do any microtransactions. He just played his ass online because he was able to. Can these fools legit hold this stance and have a leg to stand on?

First of all your mother is wasting money buying that shit one month at a time. Get a yearly subscription for cheaper and just cut the bastard off when he fucks up in life.

She's aware. She doesn't care. She feel it's a carrot on a stick thing for my nephew.

Yeah, fuck that. She only payed for a month, not her fault he got 3 months worth of service. I hope you can get this sorted, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

This sounds fake. They don't individually deactivate gold.

Why in the world would I lie about something so stupid. I'm relaying the info she gave me. She is 60 so details may have been muffed because I don't see how the hell this scenario is even poissible.

I don't think so. Microsoft Support wouldn't be holding the account hostage if she actually paid for the months.

They dont have to deactivate it. It auto does that. I think some info got lost in the story.

I'm betting when they bought the month, they accidentally turned on auto renewal. There is probably some sort of grace period. If it's still not paid the second month, they probably restrict online access like what's happening here.

Could be totally wrong, but that's my guess. Something like that happened with my Uber accont one time, where I got a ride but ended up getting a new card before they took the payment. My account couldn't be used until I paid; think it was something like $8.

She should just try to talk to someone else there. I'm sure someone will fix it for her. She should probably really make sure to say she didn't know it was active during those two months.

lol, Im like 99% sure something is missed in translation.

Pretty sure accounts auto go to Silver when Gold runs out and that its not a person flipping a switch on individual accounts.
