Do you forgive them?

Ohio Couple, Mikayla and Anthony Bishop are finally speaking out and apologizing after they caused a COVID-19 SUPER SPREADER EVENT where 30 people at their big wedding, including themselves caught the virus!!

They tied the knot on October 31st and skimped on covid-19 rules for big gatherings as 83 people attended the event.

2 weeks later, almost half of the people came down with the virus including 3 elderly grandparents who were rushed to hospital suffering severe symptoms

They dated for 5 years after hooking up in University said they tried to be conscious of the ongoing pandemic and even trimmed down their guest list from 300 to just "83" and spaced out tables and provided hand sanitizers...but it did not work

When she walked down the aisle, most of her guests did not wear masks anymore and said "The first thing i see is everyone's face. And that's when i realized wow. Nobody's wearing a mask"

Anthony said "When i saw everyone not wearing masks i was just like, Oh well i guess we're just gonna kinda go with it i guess"

Then they said they got caught up in the moment after the nuptial exchange and started having fun where all of them started hugging, cheering and kissing and dancing..not realizing what would happen

Mikayla says "Weddings are definitely scary right now. I didn't think that almost half of our guests were gonna get sick. You're in the moment. You'r ehaving fun. You don't think about COVID anymore"

They got calls from their guests stating they were tested positive and said they got a call every day as she said it was just one after another

Their honeymoon was over after they came down with COVID and cancelled their exotic honeymoon when they had mild symptoms and now racked with guilt

They think it was the "rowdy dance floor" that did it when they started dancing with everybody and were all up in each other's faces..

Mikayla and Anthony now hope that nobody at their party were the reason for any deaths in Ohio after this and are asking for FORGIVENESS.

Do you forgive these people?

On one hand, 83 is still a large gathering and they should have known better. On the other hand, it sounds like they did try to be safe about it and use a venue where 83 could have been safe, but their guests' failure to be sensible ruined those efforts, and they can't necessarily be blamed for that. On the other other hand, they had enough of a party to have a "rowdy dance floor" instead of just sending everyone home sensibly after the ceremony, so they had their chance to salvage their precautions and gave it up. I'm gonna settle with "what a bunch of idiots."

If, upon seeing people not wearing masks, spoke up and requested they put them back on and that was the end of it, I'd be fine w/ forgiving them even if it was too little too late at that point.
But...they just rolled w/ it, then had an anti-social distancing dance floor as icing, so yeah...they and their guests deserve all the blame they get.

My wife and I eloped w/ on a beach w/ just the minister and photographer as witnesses, so I find it hard to sympathize w/ "only" getting to have 83 guests, too...

It kinda feels like the attendance limit is more or less there on the expectation that people might not follow rules.

In general, they really should have held off on the thing.

Well, I dont live in Ohio, so it isnt really my place to forgive them. I will say that this far into a pandemic everyone should have known better though.

But theres the problem of them infecting others who had nothing to do with it, so yeah, no sympathy from me.

1) wearing a fucking mask and having a temporary inconvenience isn't living in fear. Being in denial is a response to fear.

2) it's not a 99.9% recovery rate for my parents and my SO's parents (age 70-80, we are 30 years old) and I care about their lives too. Caring about other people's literal lives I guess is too much of an inconvenience for you.

Not sure I'm following.

If you're talking about the economic effects of a shutdown.

1) this post was about going to superspreader events, not a shutdown
2) the government should be providing stimulus packages and support during this pandemic, like other sane wealthy countries who give a shit
3) not going to superspreader events like weddings/parties and wearing masks would have drastically helped it so we could keep things up and running

And my point was that not everyone shares the same level of concern or have taken the same precautions so people should include that when evaluating the actions they should take.

I'm having trouble reading your posts. "Their level of concern" means what. People having a lack of concern causing issues because people can't go to grocery stores? Then we agree.

Concern levels being appropriate and you're arguing for negligence during a global pandemic meaning other people need to...not go to grocery stores?

Am I reading what you're saying correctly? I'm not following, as I said.

Quite the opposite. I don't want to force people to stay home. I want them to decide for themselves. Without anyone else imposing their personal level of concern onto them or them imposing their personal level of concern onto someone else.

Oh yeah friend who had cancer removed earlier this year and was on Chemo got it, said it was like the worst flu he's ever had.

And this past weekend was a big ol outside gathering for a Queen of Hearts drawing, could have won $501,000. Some stumbling bumbling drunk guy won. Lost his phone running up to the front. But there was easily 500-600 people there minimum I'd say. We were spread out in our own groups that we came with and a majority had masks.

Every place I've seen with curbside, will bring it out to a person on foot.

Many places will let you call in an order, or you can call the help number for help navigating and creating an online order.

Odds are they have younger healthier family that can help them or shop for them, if not there are also both shopping and delivery services available in most areas, often offered as a free service for elderly or people with disabilities.

If you are especially vulnerable you should probably be wearing a higher level filter that will actually offer you some protection, wash your hands regularly, don't touch your face. If YOU take PERSONAL responsibility for YOUR health and YOU take it seriously your odds of getting sick are very low.

Really, this is the big thing. The economic implications of shutting businesses down are bad enough to potentially support an argument against such shutdowns if there are effective alternatives for controlling the spread of the infection (which there sometimes are, and implementing those alternatives with an appropriate degree of caution is an important part of returning to normal life).

But nobody needs to have a big party. Ever. That's 100% something that is done purely for fun and not out of any level of necessity at all. Nobody's life will be measurably worse for having to go a year or two without throwing a 300-person party. So stahp.
