I'm asking genuinely (and not to mock the idea) because as someone that's still paying off undergrad loans, I'm all for it. I realize the idea is not new but it seems like talk of it has ramped up recently. I get that part of it would be done by forcing companies like Amazon to pay taxes and stuff but is that it? What about fixing college tuition so that no more people have to take out large sums for a 4 year degree that is getting less and less valuable these days

It would work as long as we taxed the rich fairly, otherwise it's coming out of the pockets of people that never got to afford college, but get to pay for yuppies.

Countries that heavily subsidize University tuition or offer it for free generally have either extremely strict entrance exams, a robust trade school program, or both.

There's a reason why a lower percentage of Germans go to university compared to Americans even though it is free.
