I love MCU but their comics aren't as entertaining and fun as the movies. I'm also not invested in the lore. I'm a bit more adept at DC lore thanks to DCAU.

I stopped reading the moment Marvel went full SJW with their comics. Purposely introducing new characters and superheroes that belong to some minority race or LGBT identity seems to be a requirement for writers in Marvel now.

DC comics doesn't do this as much thankfully. Not sure about now though. i haven't toucjhed a superhero comic book since like 2015

Currently? No, it's too busy jacking off to its own multiverse. Highly recommend some of the less recent stuff, though. Anything from 2000-2006, Geoff Johns's Green Lantern run, John Ostrander's Suicide Squad run, the New 52 Justice League, Injustice, DCeased, and New 52 Batman are all great.

Marvel was fine up until 2014-15ish. As recently as 2010, they were still producing fun comics like they always had. DC hasn't succumbed anywhere near as hard to woke bullshit, but the stuff from 1986-2011, which is after they rebooted with Crisis on Infinite Earths but before they rebooted again with Flashpoint, is particularly good.

Also, there are comics that take place in the DCAU, like Batman Adventures and Superman Adventures.

I've only checked spiderman since that's the one I'm most familiar with but maybe I should give their other heroes a chance and they might surprise me?

You know what comic I thought had potential? Gotham Academy. I like stories that don't really feature the big stars but talk about them/build them up/tease them without actually revealing them. Makes the world the heroes live in seem real and actually have lore. If Marvel has an equivalent I might be into that.

I hated that Marvel went woke (preaching social justice), but now I feel bad for them

I mean the comic book industry isn't doing so hot so they have to find a way to get new readers. They don't live in a vacuum and nab on to the fallacious view that social media is real life. Recipe for getting woke and going broke

Yeah I think because DC has always been king of the shows so I basically read all the DCAU comics, from batman to gotham adventures to superman to justice league to all of it.

I've even read young justice comics and liked them too, if they had made more I'd have read them.

Did Marvel ever do tie-in comics for spectacular spiderman and avengers earth's mightiest heroes? Those are the only 2 shows that have ever been good from Marvel.

There is literally nothing wrong with introducing new characters who are minorities.

Marvel's problem is those characters are often associated with cringey writing. Or hideous art styles.

There is plenty of room for a variety of characters. That said, it did irk me that they so transparently sidelined or incapacitated the traditional white, male characters to push the minority replacements all around the same time.

Politics in comics is fine. Making non-white, non-male characters is fine. Replacing beloved heroes with horribly written characters, regardless of their race or gender, is not. In contrast, DC's series about a black lesbian hitwoman, The Silencer, was well received.

The majority of all monthly comics are absolute garbage. Your best bet is to find the collected stories/runs that ended up being good and just read those.

I tend to like DC better than Marvel, but for every Rebirth theres about fifty actually Wally West is an amnesiac serial killer and his kids are dead all along.

The thing is DC has done exactly that except people got over it quickly because the comics themselves were good and had reasons to exist besides "here's a comic with a woman in it"

Batwoman has been replaced by a lesbian for example. Which is kind of a poetic justice since the original batwoman was introduced as a contrived love interest for Batman because people were saying Batman & Robin were gay. Most people don't remember the original batwoman these days anymore.

If you want something closer to the MCU you should look to the younger heroes, the MCU is mostly based on how those characters were 40 years or more ago. Look into Ms Marvel, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Champions, and Strange Academy.

If you have Marvel Unlimited it might be worth reading through Donny Cates Marvel work in order, it's very popcorn, greatest hits type stuff but makes for a fun read mostly.

Real talk, stop reading Marvel and DC and start reading Boom Studios, Seven Secrets is shaping up nicely, We Only Find Them When They're Dead is cool so far, and Something is Killing the Children has been the scene hotness for like a year now.

There's Harley Quinn + Powergirl which is like kinda the same thing.

It was a brief arc in Harley's New 52 series that guy it's own expanded line due to positive reception so I suggest reading the New 52 arc first and then reading the Harley Quinn / Powergirl series for better context.

I can get you the new 52 issue numbers if you want.

You can really tell who the alt-righters pretending to be Marvel fans when they were never such.

You people have no idea who Stan Lee and Jack Kirby actually were, do you? Marvel was the first company to ever go "woke". They never weren't political. (Early Iron Man was all about the military-industrial complex and the Cold War.) Fuck, even before Marvel was actually called Marvel, Captain America was created to push America entering WW2. That's right. Captain America was punching Hitler in the face while conservatives were still trying to block America entering the war while shouting "America first!" (Gee, why does THAT sound so familiar?)

It's like you all completely missed the point of X-Men. Or Black Panther who in his first solo comic fucking beat up the KKK.

Really, the only worse franchise you can try to pretend to be a fan of while bitching about the imaginary SJW menace is Star Trek.....

Anyone who says current Marvel sucks is wrong. X-Men is in a new golden age. I hear consistently great things about Immortal Hulk and anything that Donny Cates touches. Daredevil is strong more often than not. Marvel has several defined types of books whereas DC is either "Batman and everything else".

DC is in disarray right now and they're in flux big time. That doesn't mean there isn't great stuff happening. Problem is the company is very top heavy with Batman stuff. And the company is cutting all sorts of corners now and in the next several months.

For the monthly comics, I haven't read much in the last 2 years or so. But the Black Label books have plenty of cool options. Also a lot of the old classics have been absorbed into the Black Label brand (ie. All-Star Superman, Superman: Red Son, V for Vendetta, etc)
