For my part, I don't think masculinity is a valid concept.

I'm open minded to the possibility that I'm wrong on the subject, but this has been one of my biggest hangups on "toxic masculinity" in the last few years, in that no one can seem to provide a proper definition for it. They'll give examples of what they consider "toxic masculinity" all day, but they can't seem to define the term.

How do you feel about the paradox of the heap? Or, more directly, do mountains exist?

^ That does not follow. Toxic masculinity is what is involved with the high frequency of men raping, beating up and killing women. This is rare the other way around. Something that is toxic causes death or serious harm.

I don't really know how the internet defines "toxic", it seems to change it's meaning pretty often to just hate on certain characteristics, but the way I see it is:

Mean Girls types. Women that bully other women for not being pretty enough, or girly enough, or whatever.

Women in the workplace that berate and hold down other women. I've worked with a lot of women, and my girlfriend has as well, there's constant conflict and I've had female bosses that just shit on the lower level female employees. My girlfriend has had experiences with older women bullying her specifically because she was younger.

I don't know if this fits the meaning, but some women love to talk down to you like a child, or lecture you. They do this to men and other women.

And also just general passive aggressiveness women do with each other.

I feel like men that claim that women can't be toxic never have much experiences around them. They can be major assholes just as well as men.

Or...you could just call toxic behavior plain old toxicity and stop trying to define certain types of toxic behavior as a blight on an entire gender. Doing it by gender is intentionally divisive and ensures that any conversation about true toxic behavior is over before it even starts when toxicity really does need to be talked through.

Like, there's literally nothing confusing about this at all.

What is the utility of gendering these things? Society shames everyone that doesn't adhere to social norms, the problem is the social norms themselves and you can do nothing to fix that when your approach is divisive from the onset.

If you don't agree with masculinity or femininity as concepts then you're not really denying the fundamentals of 'toxic masculinity'

Indeed, I just disagree with the approach of labeling it in a gendered way and would prefer it be called "The Toxicity of our city, OF OUR CIIIITY!" or something like toxic social pressure.
