always annoys me people saying covid is "just the flu"

1. no, there is a substantial amount of deaths more with covid plus long term effects (and this is with severe social distancing, lockdowns, masks, would be even worse without)
2. "just the flu"? Uh yeah no people die from the flu too (though less). There's no "just." I have immunocompromised people in my family and taking the vaccine is important. This isn't just a you getting the flu problem, never was

Not sure how valid it is, but was always told not to get it super-early.
So I always wait for Nov. or early Dec.

Yeah, got it early last month. When I was teaching I got it every year at school but I still go get it at the drive thru clinic now.

Yes. I used to be more in the line of thought of..

"I never get the flu! I don't need one!", and I worked in a pharmacy. That was even the line of thought with other coworkers. As I've looked more into vaccines, the more people vaccinated...the better. It isn't about protecting your health, it's about creating as much immunity in the population to stunt spread as much as possible. It was easy to get it through school, I didn't even sign up until the day of. I haven't gotten it consistently in the past 5 years though. I'd prefer to be more on top of it.

My bubble is tiny, but my roommate is a 63 year old anti-vaxxer. I can cope with him because he's chill and has self-humility, which is more than I can say for a lot of people I AGREE with typically. I'll see if I can convert him. He tells me there are heavy metals in vaccines (there aren't any longer, at least not here in Canada)...but he also tells me that large amounts of cilantro will neutralize heavy metals LMAO.

Although the flu virus mutates and is more difficult to pin down, vaccination levels over 99% is how the measles, mumps and many other deadly diseases were nearly eradicated.

Now comparing to the flu...there are still nearly half a million flu hospitalizations per year in the USA, presenting a massive burden to healthcare. More immunity in the population=less burden.

Only about half the people that contact and spread the flu every year end up with any symptoms

You could very well get the flu and pass it on to others without ever knowing

This is also a huge factor! It's really too bad they don't teach this stuff in school. They just get ya in a room and stab you...lmfao I understand people's wariness. Although I was more like you. Not really wary, I was just like...'eh, I have a pro immune system'. Which I do lol. Or so it seems.
