This might have been one of the best decisions of my life. Who needs thanksgiving when you can to do a solo hiking trip in Hawaii?

what island are you on?

I've only been to Hawaii 3 times. each time was a different island

when I was 10 I went to Oahu
when I was like 20 I think, I went to the Big Island (I liked this one best)
and when I was around 30, I went to Kauai

that was almost 10 years ago. don't know when or if I will go back again. but if I could, I'd return to the Big Island. I am not sure exactly why but I enjoyed it the most. maybe cause it's so quiet there.

Fuck bro.... its on my bucket list.. i should go there this year

Nah, as they force you to get tested multiple times to even get into the state. Instead of going to my familys and risk getting my parents sick, who are both at high risk.

Hiking and backpacking on a nearly empty island was definitely the right choice.

Im on the Big Island! Incredible scenery here. And Mauna Kea is breathtaking. Gonna hike it tomorrow or Wednesday I believe.

The testing requirements are insane. Have to provide a negative covid test from a Hawaii state approved tester. But you cant take the test more than 72 hours before your flight leaves.

Problem is testing is a mess in the US, and most tests are taking way longer than 3 days now. Issue is, if you get to Hawaii before you get your results, you have to quarantine for 14 days first, even if you get the negative result back like 24 hours after you get to Hawaii. Its insane.

Oh and I got randomly chosen to do a rapid test once I landed here in Hawaii, which took another 30 minutes.

Theyre being VERY protective of their island, and rightfully so IMO.

A fair amount will, yes. Is it risky to fly to Hawaii? Yes. Reckless? No. When I get back I will get tested multiple times before I go back to work or am around people.

Theres always a risk during a pandemic. Lol @ people who think its reckless, honestly.
