Im a recruiter and never heard of this. And we never interview people for the heck of it. Its time consuming on managers and interviewers and we are also mindful of the time our candidates take.

Not for diversity, no. But if someone applies and meets all of the requirements for work experience, we have to interview them, even if we've already decided on a candidate. That mostly happens when someone internal applies. Still have to interview the other people.
