Only one I can think of is Deus Ex.

Herman and Simons chase you across the Earth and talk shit the entire time and in both cases when they dramatically come for their finale with a ton of plot and baggage you can still just wander off and continue the game. Twice in Simons case.

It's actually disappointing that you have to kill Anna (without exploits) simply because everyone else is player choice

And it's super cool. Any other games had the balls to do that?

In far cry 4 if you just sit and listen to the villain rant in the opening scene he will eventually just let you go.

That's 4 not 3 and that's doesn't count.

You don't walk off from a boss and continue the plot you just get a nonstandard game over

Jade Empire does the same now you mention it.

But again that's not quite the same as what I was getting at

I think I'm not explaining myself very well.

I don't mean bosses with sneaky ways to cheese them.

I mean plot heavy bosses that turn up full of piss and vinegar in a boss arena where then you can just literally walk through the door and continue the game as if they weren't there.

You can't just walk past The End. During the fight and continue the game. You can just cheese him in multiple ways.

I mean I feel at this point if you can just walk away like you're describing the boss isn't really mandatory.

The final boss in Planescape: Torment?

There's only like 6 fights in the entire game you're required to fight.

In Final Fantasy VII, you can simply decline to do the final fight against the Turks. If you say you don't feel like fighting them, they just turn around and walk away.

I mean mandatory in that the boss fight has to occur for the plot

Lots of games have optional superbosses who turn up that you can walk away from. Like half the Dark Aeons in FFX.

But you can't walk away from Seymour.

There's a lot of bosses in FF6 you can just ignore. You won't recruit the character locked behind them but you can continue the game just fine.
