I can def agree with this list mostly but here's my corrections:

I absolutely hated Sun and Moon. I have good nostalgia for 4 and 6 but 4 had Giratina. 5 is when I started getting back into pokemon heavily and met my wife so I associate the gen 5 games with her.

I cant get behind 2 ranked first. Most johto pokemon suck, and the good ones were post e4. Plus the level progression was really bad and low. considering you had 16 gyms you could go through.

Gen 5 was good as hell

I didn't start playing Pokemon until my friends made me get gen 5 on its release. When I was a kid I kind of avoided Pokemon to try and seem cool or different. But had I started on any generation other than 5 or the gen 2 remakes - I probably would've quit the series after whatever game I played. 5 definitely made me interested in the series as a whole, and made me go back and play gens 2, 3, and 4 to catch and transfer all my Pokemon to 5.

I kinda agree with this. S/G/C was a Pokmon game with really high potential that didnt feel like it lived up to it. Going back to Kanto was so hype until you realize that there was minimal story over there. Just blow through the gyms pretty much. I think there was one thing over there story wise outside of facing Red and Blue but I cant remember.

I was struggling to decide which Pokemon game I want to play a couple weeks ago and kept starting a game in Yellow and Red because nostalgia but holy fuck they've aged horribly.

Started FireRed and I've been hooked, up to Lavender Town now.

But now I'm considering taking a break from it to play through Emerald. I really liked Sapphire back when it came out and only played through it a couple of times whereas I've played through Kanto in some form like 50 times.

4 felt like the evolution of the franchise, its biggest flaw is that it's slow as fuck
6 had all the momentum in the world with mega evolution, but felt unfinished, it's also when the developers started getting lazy with shit like "The Battle Frontier project has started", somehow Emerald runs circles around ORAS
3 was was great overall, just held back by time and lacking series staples like the attack split
7 feels unfinished and overall rushed. There's so much about these games that should be great, but ends up being underwhelming (Ultra Hallway, Mother Beast), and the long as fuck cutscenes don't help
8 has the worst story and region in the series. The only reason I'm putting it above 2 and 1 is because of how streamlined everything is. The DLC fixed some of the problems, but introduced a big one in letting GameFreak hide behind DLC.
2 is ambitious, but fucks up the execution. Two regions is a great idea, but the level scaling is awful and both regions suffer as a result. The pokemon distribution is bad. Huge step up from Gen 1 tho.
1, great game that led the framework for everything else, just outdated.

SS had its reasons for being the second worst entry IMO, and a fat chunk of that was dexit and the inclusion of industry-ruining DLC. I have spent lots of time shiny hunting in the dynamax adventures, and making competitive pokemon has never been easier.

Wild area was a nice inclusion but came up way short of what it could be.

It's better than gen 7 though, let's not get carried away.

Gen 5 had my favorite pokemon Volcarona and a lot of great ones. Haxorus, Bisharp, Chandelure, Galvantula and Electross are among my favorite mons. It had the best story of any gen. The only way it "ruined" the series is because it sold poorly. XY is where the actual problems that ruined the series showed themselves.

Platinum alone carries gen 4 over gen 6. Gen 6 is garbage only outdone by base game gen 8. Sun/Moon did try at least.

Haven't played Gen 8, but weighing all the positives and many negatives, it would probably be dead last if I bought it now

1 isn't bad but it's hella dated. Yellow version is the only way to tolerate Gen 1, tho.

7 is the first time I've dropped a Pokemon game. In no way should story take that much presence in mainline Pokemon. Empty ass hallways and muddy looking game. Got halfway through Moon and never looked back

5 is ok. Despite have the most new Pokemon since Gen 1, I struggled finding a team I wanted to use. This is when pokefans started thinking story should be important. I wouldn't mind it if it could be skipped or it was better.
BW2 keeps this from being bottom.

4 had everything it needed to be top tier. 3 good starters, meta game shift, online functions, jazz music, warm graphics, best champion, solid Pokemon selection, Pokemon transfer, and much more. But it's so

I haven't played Platinum or HGSS, but from what I've seen, the speed is not fast enough, in comparison to Gen 3. It seems dumb, but it's like going from DMCV's fluid gameplay, to Dark Souls stuttery ass gameplay. It's gross.

Best Gen known as Gen 3. Between Emerald, FRLG, and Colosseum, Pokemon was at its peak.

Best Music, Locales, Content, Starters, fast as fuck gameplay, double battles, abilities, actual puzzles, a lot of Pokemon were actually useful and unique vs simply existing. It was fucking amazing

Honestly the only games I liked in this series at all were b/w, their sequels, and the generation 2 remakes. Everything else was boring. Even then, those three games weren't exactly the best. The only thing that carried the series for me was the novelty of making your own team, which wears off because the games kind of have the exact same formula.
