Today I saw someone with the license plate DOORMAN and I got to thinking about a super hero whose only power was the ability to open and close doors with his mind. Like regular household doors, not interdimensional doors or anything. And only unlocked doors. Locks are his kryptonite.

I've seen a few books along these lines, such as The Paper Magician, whose heroine can only perform magic with sheets of paper, and A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking, with a protagonist whose magic only works on bread.

What are some other not-so super powers?

I can imagine a different kind of ablity with somebody called "doorman" actually. One which could be much more useful.

I have a book filled with the worst super villains... Maybe I'll take a look at it again. The problem was many super powers were useful before adding in weakness. That being said, one useless one I remember talking about with friends was the ability to put the plastic on the cheese products that stores sell. Like putting the plastic on the Kraft singles automatically...

Hyper-visibility: The ability to be seen regardless of lighting and through objects >_>

Bullet magnetism: The ability to bend bullets in your direction.

Both of which are abilities that can be absurdly OP. The witch in Read Or Die used her paper manipulation power to insane effect (defeating people with far more conventionally powerful abilities) and I think I've seen some crazy magic that was done by manipulating bread. They're abilities that are absurdly powerful, albeit counterintuitive

I remember I was listening to a TTRPG. It was a suicide squad one. One guy was a garbagemancer or something. He had power over garbage. He ended up accidentally using his power to create a monster out of a dumpster. It was very strong, and it took a while before Wonder Woman finally defeated it...

Marvel I believe once made it a point to make useless Super powers just for the sake of showing not all powers are useful. One guy could turn into any flavor ice cream he wanted. Only use I believe he got was once he turned into ice cream waited till he melted went under a door and reformed.

One of Apocalypse's former Horsemen was a mutant who created concussive blasts with his hands and blew his hands off the first time he used it (something Apocalypse fixed when he recruited him)

The ability to hear the thoughts of hamsters.

The power over doors could be very op, he can open or keep shut every door. Every place he is would be a very secure place. I imagine to not make him lame any door under his control would be completely impervious to damage. Could work well with a more diplomatic hero, no one leaves until the deal is done.

I cant rember the book, but there was a Marvel comic where someone was talking about lesser mutants that the X Men wouldnt be recruiting . One had the ability to raise or lower his body temperature by one degree. Talk about the evolutionary short stick.

My dad had a good one, in response to why the X Men dont have just random weird powers. The power is the ability to make people think it is Tuesday when it is actually Thursday
