Lots of people drink soda, including my girlfriend. She worries about plastic use and we try to cut down where we can.
That's where you guys come in!
I want to get her something along the lines of a soda stream and I want to know what you guys think is best.
I want to consider ease of ordering cartridges and potentially replacing the reusable bottles.
Is soda stream the best or just the best known?
I know it doesn't work out financially too much to make your own soda sometimes, but as long as it's not like $3 a bottle or something, that's fine. I myself switched over to drinking more kool aid and juice concentrates, since those are mainly in paper and I have a pitcher to mix them in but she's not into juice or kool aid much herself.

Thanks for the help guys!

I've never used any but I thought soda stream was closer to sparkling water. Whatever you choose it's probably not going to be anywhere near as good as commercial soda.

Can't you do cans? Not saying they aren't wasteful either but it's an improvement.

In terms of making a solid carbonation the SodaStream is pretty good...... the problem is the syrup is hella garbage now (if you are a soda puritan).

One of the main things is with their new syrup that the carbon dioxide no longer converts into carbonic acid, which is where the tasty bite of soda comes from

Basically, I'm disgruntled 'cuz sodastream was delicious when I first got it - but over the years the quality dropped.

How is it with lemon lime soda or an equivalent to dr. Pepper?
This is kind of disappointing to hear. I was excited for this for her.

We've thought about cans but the convenience of them drops a lot. We probably drink a litre of sugary liquid a day each.

nifty thing is you can mix Tang (or iced tea, or whatever) into the carbonated water and that is actually pretty legit

Well, I went with drinkmate. The reviews were stellar and all mentioned how great it was for flavored drinks.
If I remember, I'll post back here after the holidays.

As far as the actual machines go I think they all are the same, ya? They're just a co2 injector right?

My spouse bought a Soda Stream, but the replacement cartridges are stupid expensive. But he found someone who sold an adapter that lets you hook up a full-size CO2 tank, which is the equivalent of like 100 cartridges.

I saw they can come out to like $1/litres sometimes, but it's worth saving the plastic.
