To be fair, atheists who wrap their identity up in their atheism instead of it being one part of them can be pretty unbearable. But the same can be said of many groups.

Yup. The atheists you see through media are usually cool, but the ones I've personally talked to have came off way more pretentious and likely to push their views down your throat at times. Which is funny, cause their main complaint is usually that they're atheists because religion does that. Don't know how they miss that hypocrisy >_>

But I'm not gonna front like my views aren't skewed by how people online view Jehovah Witnesses, yet I grew up around them and the community I grew up around was super pleasant and never made me uncomfortable even though I distanced myself from religion. It's obvious regardless of what you believe in or not believe in, it just matters the community you find yourself in within that organization.

Militant atheists can be jerks, but they're not using their religion to justify horrible shit nor forcing it on others. I don't think you can compare atheists with them. Of course not all christians are like that, but there's still too many of the bad types.

It's not even a knock against Christianity itself, but America's warped version of it.

They might try to push their atheism on others, but I feel you can't compare it to how much Christians do it.

I keep my non-religious feelings to myself as well. Same with politics when someone IRL asks about it. Don't want to open a can of worms and get people mad, especially down here.
