I wish they'd put Alucard in, they already have 90% of the work done with his assist.

I mostly enjoyed the remake. It was a pretty nostalgic trip in spite of the changes and shortfalls.

FE's definitely not lacking for Smash representation, it's just that Haar's an extremely minor character even compared to others in the Tellius games (I'd expect Soren or Zelgius first, though the latter would likely be a clone of Ike), and there's no particular incentive to represent Tellius further (namely, the games are no longer for sale and there's nothing new there to promote).
My tongue was planted firmly in cheek when I made that comment, along with the Haar recommendation. I guess it didn't really come across...

I'm a huge FE fan, but even I can freely admit that it's the series that is most grossly disproportionate when it comes to the number of characters they have in Smash versus the series' overall popularity.

I hope not, because it wasn't very good.

The thing I found annoying about FF7R is that most of the things it did wrong were completely unforced errors. It was just a bunch of relatively minor design decisions that compounded to make the game an absolute slog to go through. On the rare times where the game pulled its head out of its own ass and got out of its own way, there was an actual solid game somewhere under all the bullshit, but those moments were both sporadic and brief. I felt obligated to Platinum the game and I did so, but afterwards it immediately went on my shelf and I doubt I'll ever play it again.

I had way more fun with the Seiken Densetsu 3 remake and that one was done on a shoestring budget. It actually remembered how to be fun while still staying true to the original game's roots, which are two things that FF7R completely botched.

There are some games where I feel like they need to be given an earnest chance to prove themselves and FF7R was one of those games. There have been games that I started out not liking but which ultimately won me over by the end of the game (Space Marine comes to mind) and I was hoping FF7R would do that, but it never did. By the time I concluded that I wasn't having fun, I was already close to the end of the game and I decided to just go for the platinum for the hell of it.

The issue are the changes. The change of the battle system was something most people can live with I assume. Changing the story made it not a remake and just ruined it.

On the contrary you could say that it is what makes it a 'remake' rather than a modern remaster with proper high quality 3D graphics, environments, and cutscenes.

I feel like a good 20-40 hours is more than enough time to give a game an honest chance. I can't imagine going for a platinum trophy for a game I didn't care for, but then again, I have a friend who buys all kinds of shit games just to farm trophies.

Oh, okay. It can be so hard to tell when it comes to people talking about Smash characters >.>

That said, I'd enjoy seeing Haar, even if it's a given that having him riding a wyvern would make him way too big (just like Ridley).

I am not up to date with the Smash community, I didn't know people wanted Crash so bad. Makes sense though. Sephiroth was a cool surprise I'd say. I get it the complaints but...I think it's sweet to have the villain for Cloud. Plus those two characters are still the highest recognition FF entities imo. Maybe I'm wrong cuz I'm out of touch though.

Remakes don't change the story. They might add on to it but never change it completely.

The issue are the changes. The change of the battle system was something most people can live with I assume. Changing the story made it not a remake and just ruined it.

The indvidual storylines focused on Midgar/Avalanche were a great addition. Learning more about each of the members and getting to participate in their lives was a great improvement to the game. The battle system I think was a positive change on the whole. Turn based battle systems are kind of a relic of the past and I think this was the best they could do with what they had to work with while keeping some measure of the old system in place. I find it a far better improvement to FF15's though they share obvious similarities. FF15's felt like chaos and this system seems far more centered.

There was one thing I hated about the remake as far as the story goes and unfortunately it's probably the biggest through line through the entirety of the remake series. The whole thing with the fates and shit and this big stupid goofass monster at the end was among the dumbest shit I've ever seen/played and admittedly it soured the experience greatly for me. They should have found a better way to have a 'big bad' for the first episode rather than what they did.

I really enjoyed what they did with the SOLDIER boss and wish/hope they have more of those kinda recurring throughout the series. Kinda like having a Megaman type boss setup where you have all these individual SOLDIER's with different specialties that require different strategies/fights to beat.

On the whole though, in spite of the glaring issue with the storyline I mentioned earlier, I enjoyed the experience and I look forward to seeing more and seeing the world open up. I enjoyed it so much playing it the first time that I immediately went back through for a quick second playthrough to knock out all of the stuff I had missed.
