This is like the third time he has done this in main canon

Anyway the new Batman is Lucius Fox's son. Lucius Fox was the black dude in the Nolan movies that built Batman's toys

Actually I am not sure. The article didn't really explain that part. I know it has something to do with an event DC did called Future Slate

Oh i was wrong about the young part, he's a grown ass man. Still. Makes way less sense in canon for some rando to take the Cowl instead of, you know, any of his proteges or his son. Tasteless pandering at its finest.

Why must it always be considered shoehorning when a black person gets a lead role?
@JoeThe12th

It isnt always. Miles is a unique and organic character with his own arc that makes sense. Making characters black just because is nearly as insulting as not trying to be inclusive at all.

And im saying this as a black person. Its tokenism.

DC needs to just retire Bruce permanently already. Hes right next to Barry Allen and Hal Jordan as a character for whom every legacy replacement is far more interesting. >_>

If you say so. I haven't kept up since new 52. If he's been in for a while as an established character with a desire to fight crime sure why not

last time I saw him in the comics, he died. I don't know if that was canon or not though. he came back to our time I think and died and then one of the Robins, Tim Drake I think, went into the future and took his place. and then i never found out what happened to Tim after that

Because why cant we just make black heroes (Static Shock movie when?) Instead of making black versions of existing heroes as a sales boost?

  1. Miles Morales isn't shoehorned at all.
  2. It makes sense for someone as wealthy and resourceful as Lucius Fox's son to pick up the mantle.

Yes. They're clearly making "Batman" black for diversity reasons. But that doesn't mean it's automatically invalidated. At this point, you literally cannot have a woman or person of color as your hero without it being seen as political. If you tried to be innocuous, you couldn't get away with it.

So why not be upfront about it?

This Batman was literally created to be black Batman though. They literally had a big event a few months back and made a big deal about getting black writers and the selling point for this Batman was that anyone could be Batman even black kids

yes. during the New 52 days. he was the 2nd Batwing. first was a guy from Africa. he quit for reasons I can't remember and then this guy became an American Batwing for a little while. then I think that ended too at some point. I don't know. I haven't been paying close attention to DC since like 2015 or so. last thing I read was the first DC Metal event. (the story with all the evil Batmen from other universes)

Okay, yeah. That's a little on the nose if he used to be Batwing and now they're like, "Nah, he's actually Batman."

I would've preferred keeping the Batwing name, but I trust they'll do a decent job of things.
