Her being a useless wife was her whole shtick. They exist and aren't often portrayed in sitcoms.

They'd make Kelly super-smart because it's sexist for her to be an airhead. They'd make Bud gay because it would be sexist for him to fawn over and objectify women. And Peg would be a business woman because it's sexist if she's a leeching housewife. That's just Al's warped sexist male perspective. He thinks that her career got in the way of his and she's blocking him from his full potential whereas she's really the one who wears the pants in the family.

In short, it does not need to be remade in the current environment. <_<

You know looking back, what really made the show were the studio crowd reaction. Same for Mr. Bean. I don't think I would have found many of them funny if the crowd weren't piped in.

I really don't think you'd have to change anything about the Bundy's.

The biggest problems are Marcy and Fat Women at the shoe store. (Al agrees)

Some of the jokes would also have to be changed. I don't think "Psycho Dad" would survive a remake ironically.

It would have to be changed to something more recent. Psycho Dad was a fictional western modeled after The Rifleman. I don't know if it would make sense for a forty-something in 2020 to be watching reruns of old westerns. If anything, he'd probably be watching reruns of a fictional 80s series.

Given that Ed ONeil apparently harassed the shit out of the actress who played Marcy because she was a lesbian, youre right, this series would not be made today. They would have canceled Eds career by the end of the first season.

They did not get along but I can't find anything that says he "harassed the shit out of her"

He was uninvited to the wedding not because Amanda hated him but because Amanda thought he would laugh once he saw her and her wife in tuxedos and he was like "I probably would laugh and she was probably right to not invite me"

Amanda isn't the only gay co star he's had. I don't really see anything that suggests he would have had his career trashed. If Liam Neeson can walk away from "I was hoping to run into a random black guy so I could kill them" relatively unshaken I don't think Ed ever did anything so offensive that people wouldn't want to work with him anymore.

MWC was also very progressive with gay issues at the time.
