Current Events > Playing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for the 1st time. Questions/tips

This and Fire Emblem are my main 2 games. Since I can ask questions/tips about Fire Emblem in the other topic, Im good I can do that same thing here. Im decently far in the game and I do have a question if anyone minds answering.

I just beat Tokujiro the Glutton, who was surprisingly easy and the Mist Noble, who was WTF easy. Im not sure why he was so easy. All the mist cleared up after that. Im assuming there is a reason for him being that easy.

Anyway, that is where I am. I just ran into a merchant that sells some nice things. I ran into a Ninja Swordsman guy in a river that looks similar to the Lone Shadow I fought before. He isnt treated like a boss with multiple health bars and I cant seem to find a way to stealth deathblow him because of that dog that is placed.

Is there a way to Stealth Deathblow him? If not, is he worth fighting? Since he doesnt even have a name Im not sure if he drops anything useful. Also, if I do defeat him, does he respawn like every other regular enemy?

he's not a miniboss but those ninja are some of the tougher enemies in the game, this type of ninja also has poison attacks. he will respawn. also i don't know if you can sneak up on him, always fought him straight up

pretty sure he drops something semi-useful but he is guarding a treasure carp scale that are worth collecting

Those guys are just regular enemies? Holy crap. That is a huge difficulty spike if they are roaming around everywhere

Make sure you play with the TV in game mode. It helps the input lag immensely.

the loneshadows are special ninja mini bosses but yeah there are also just regular ninja enemies in the game world. fighting more than one at a time is brutal

You can fight more than 1 at once? Uh. I guess Ill need to practice killing this enemy efficiently so Im prepared for the future

I think the lone shadow you are talking about is guarding the mist raven tool so definitely get that. On my first playthrough, I actually ran pass him and got it by accident.

That Lone Shadow (river near Mist Noble) doesn't guard it. The one at Hirata Estate does.

There was one there? I dont remember that. The first and only one I saw was on that hole underground with the terrible camera when I fight him. I thought I was done with the Hirata Estate after defeating Lady Butterfly. Do I need a I go back there later or something?

the one in hirata is hidden. before crossing the bridge that leads to father, jump off the bridge going right and you'll end up on a ledge and path leading to an item. somewhere to the right of the item though, you'll see bamboo you can cut down and that path will lead you to the mist raven and the ministry ninja

much easier to understand the directions with a video

I feel like Im going the wrong direction in this game. I was looking up videos on how to defeat that Swordsman before I move on because I feel learning to beat him consistently will benefit me in the future. However, Ive been noticing a few things.

1. People have more combat arts than me at this point. At least 2 more
2. People have more Healing Gourds than me. I just got my 4th before entering this area. Im seeing people with 7
3. People have Ninjutsu unlocked at this point. I didnt even know Ninjutsu was suppose to be a thing since that section is still locked for me.
4. I only have 2 resurrection bubbles while everyone else has 3

Now that I think about it, I have beaten at least half or more of the mini bosses in this game and I have only beat 1-2 main bosses. I know Lady Butterfly was one. I think she was my 1st main boss. If the guy on the horse ridding around in that wide open area was a main boss then that would be my 2nd. If not then I have only beaten 1. I think Im screwing my route up.

The section of the game you're at is very open. I think there's 3 branching paths, as well as Ashina Castle, which it sounds like you haven't completed. So people might have more stuff than you because they did the branch you're on at a later point.

Oh! I forgot all about doing that castle! I saw a boss up a bunch of stairs and I figured I would try the other route to see if I can upgrade some before then. I forgot all about it. I think that is the main story too. I should go back

Everything in Sekiro aside from Hirata Estate is the main story, really. You can go back or continue where you're at. You'll need to do it all anyway.

Oh OK. I didnt know that. What is crazy is I just went back and beat that boss up the states with no difficulty at all. I didnt even use all my healing gourds. I guess all those other noses really prepared me for this after all

I think so. He was all about pure deflection skill. Really fun boss

The bosses in the castle feel really easy compared to what I was dealing with before going the other path. It just feels like deflection = win. Beating bosses off of deflections feels so satisfying too. I died a few times to a boss that does a really quick double sword attack. I was deflecting 1 attack but not the other. Once I figured that out it was smooth sailing

Yeah the castle is supposed to be kind of a skill check for deflecting early on in the game, so if you're coming to it later after already getting it down it's gonna be a breeze.

Ao.. I made it to the top of the castle and beat this General. I THINK this was the guy I fought at the very beginning and lost too? I was happy with myself because I beat him the third fight. An awesome fight that really is all about the skills you have developed. He feels like a real skill check.

Then... of course he isnt finished. The attack patterns have changed some but a lot of it seems to be similar. My question is about the lightning. I read a scroll? I guess? That indicates that I need to jump in the air when he attacks then press the attack button? I tried that and it didnt seem to do anything. It looks like I dont NEED to know how to deal with this attack as the game intended to defeat him but it would be nice to learn it. It seems I could just dodge it

You can just dodge (most) lightning attacks, but reflecting them back is hugely beneficial. It is done by jumping, getting hit and hitting the attack button before you land back on the ground. It takes a huge chunk out of the enemy's health and stuns them for a good while.
